But I still have to wonder if Kelly was waiting to see what Rees did considering this announcement was made twelve hours after.

I’m sure he and Rees talked. I’m totally content with Sloan/Hankton as OC…Seems like the right move to me given our situation.

Probably a good thing. It’s ultimately Kelly’s offense like it was Saban’s defense.

Tell us how 2024 is a rough year Slow?

Way I see it...I see a dominate line with tons of starts under their belts.

I see a qb who has been in the wings waiting for his time.

I see a replinished running back room filled with talent.

and LSU is WRU.

On defense:

We cant be any worse than 2023 and we went 10-3.

So if by any measure we improve the defense to lets say 50th in the nation.....and we score 38-42 points per game we should improve 1-2 games.

Yeah and we were DBU and how did that work out last year?
Cant just roll the helmet out and expect the other team to cower down.

Offensively we are losing a pair of 1st Rd WRs and the heisman winner at QB. There is going to be a drop off.
Unless the defense improves tremendously we arent going to win 10 games again.
Hell last year we won 10 with a couple of coin flips going our way. 7-5 is certainly not out of the realm of possibilities next year.

It's a risk, but it could pay off well. I trust Kelly. If It were O or Miles, I would worry more.

Ensminger must have turned him down. Thought he was getting the gang back together after letting them all go.

Actually we don't know that. We know Burrow worked out OK. I said at the time on another board that you can give credit or not to 3 main factors in the 2019 offense. Burrow, Orgeron, and Brady/Ensminger. So far it appears to me that Joe Burrow and the surrounding players on offense (Jefferson, Chase, Marshall, Helaire, etc) deserve like 95% of the credit, the OCs about 5%, and Coach O like 0%. The only credit I give Orgeron is when the LSU coach/analyst "discovered" Burrow as a potential transfer, Orgeron didn't nix it.

I'd buy that, except we have the entire 2018 season with most of the people you mention, and that offense was nowhere near the 2019 offense.

We still have a major talent issue on defense and we're losing Wingo and Smith. DL is paper thin without any proven, top talent. Even if our DBs improve dramatically, they will be on the lower end of mediocre at best. Our D just needs another year of talent injection and development. Our biggest issue in 2023 was talent and we've lost a lot of the high-end talent that 23 did have.

Offensively we're obviously going to take a step back losing JD and the WRs. We're going to likely devolve into a run-first offense with our OL, but that run game is going to be led by Josh Williams.

I think Nuss will be OK but nowhere near elite. If you're going to devolve your offense to a run-first, grinder unit, your QB or defense has to be special. Clearly our D is nowhere near "special", even on the high side of optimism, and I don't see that in Nuss...not in 2024 at least. Maybe with a year under his belt and legit talent at RB/WR.

Eh....we will see.

Except at starter

On the very high side of optimistic.

*ETA: I'm not even being negative. People on here flipped out a year ago when I told them our defensive talent (esp at DB) was going to hold us back from title contention.

Kaleb Jackson will be RB1.

I hope so.

I don't think so.

Josh Williams does all the little things coaches love, b/c he has to. If Kaleb can do those little things at his level, he's potentially RB1 nationally as a true sophomore.

If he picks up pass protection schemes, absolutely. But JW is the starter bc he does all those other things besides run.

So what is the reason we didn't go out and hire one of the best OCs in the country?

Kelly could have gone the Ed O route and not even interview his coordinators and then destroy the program by being a grown child. Would that be better?

I didn’t have an issue with what you were saying until I got to this.

What part of the 45 passes against 25 rushes from the bowl game makes you think we will be a “run first offense”? We obviously will take a step back in receiver talent by losing two first round draft picks, but we won’t be lacking good wide receivers. We picked up two good transfers to go along with top level returning talent.

LSU is going to throw the football a lot next season, and they will be a top 4 offense in the SEC. Defense is a huge unknown and will the key on whether LSU wins 8 or 10 games.

I don’t think Williams’ knee is in great shape hence he’s been more of a 3rd down back since late ‘22. I wanted Diggs to come back but Jackson and a couple of these other yutes should be able to carry the mail.
