Eh, it wasn’t that long ago that people were saying something very similar about Matt House. You might be right, but at this point I’m not assuming anything until announcements are made.

I could see the following scenario as a possibility:

1. Defensive coordinator was by far the most critical/pressing hire, so that’s what they addressed first. Not to say OC isn’t important, but when you just had a historically bad defense and fired the entire defensive staff, you need to get that guy in position first.

2. I’m actually a bit surprised Bo Davis was announced so soon after Blake Baker. It makes me think that Kelly already had an eye on Bo Davis even before Baker was hired. He’s a big name with a big price tag, so maybe that deal had to be made first to see how the rest of the assistants budget fell out. It’s also worth noting that DL is a huge position of need, so it makes sense to get Bo in place ASAP while we can still make up ground between the portal and Feb signees.

3. At this point I would think OC is likely the next highest priority, while Kelly and Baker decide what to do about the rest of the defensive staff.

If Sloan is promoted, it’s a bit of a delicate situation as you need to keep Hankton happy as well. And those two salaries (which it seems are both likely to increase) will impact the rest of the budget as well. So there are a lot of moving pieces and I think it makes sense to get all of them in place. Wouldn’t shock me to see a promotion for Sloan and extension for Hankton announced at the same time (or close together).

It’s also worth noting that external hires always leak before they get announced. That may or may not happen with an internal promotion. Further, you need to announce the external hires quickly so they can get to work recruiting. Sloan is already here working.

I suppose there’s always a chance that Underwood really liked Rees as well during his visit to Bama and decided on LSU just bc he liked the LSU program/BK over the other schools.

It’s also possible BK could’ve talked with Underwood to let him know what direction they’re going and he was cool with it. I know it’s not something he has to do as far as discussing hires with all recruits, but he isn’t just some recruit.

Maybe they have. This staff doesn't leak like the previous group did. They may not be ready to announce yet.

I like both. Rees was hamstrung by a rb that plays qb and supposedly cant read defenses very well. Rees coached Milroe up about as well as can be expected. Their oline was a mess also, average rbs and below average wrs. If Saban and Kelly are high on him, we should trust them.

Now on the other hand, I dont mind if Kelly gives Sloan a shot at OC. He's proved his worth with improving Daniels and grabbed Underwood. Its a win/win if Sloan stays on the staff either way imo.

What? He molded the Bama offense to what they had - and they were pretty freakin’ successful at it. 100% take if available.

If Reese was responsible for calling that god awful 4th down play against Michigan, after 2 timeouts no less, I don’t want him with 100 miles of LSU

Can we please stop saying this? It was said about firing House. It was also said about hiring any DC that wasn’t in the playoff.

Are you referring to the last play of the game?

The hole was there for Milroe. He didn’t see it because the center (who fricked him
Multiple times during the game) had a shitty snap that he had to bend down for

If Rees comes here and has 2 good years with Nussmeier he is probably off to be a HC somewhere. Underwood has to see the chance that he would end up here not knowing who is OC would be. If it's Kelly's offense either way then I think Sloan gives you the best chance at continuity and you stick to that

I think Tommy Rees will be our next OC.

Here is what Nick Saban said about Rees, ""Tommy Rees is one of the brightest young guys that I've seen in a long time in this business, and he's been a great addition and brought a lot of positives to the offensive side of the ball in terms of his ideas and how he relates to players, how he presents to players, his energy and enthusiasm on the field has been contagious," Saban said. "I think I see a great trust in our players with Tommy and what he tries to do from a leadership standpoint on offense."

That's one he'll of an endorsement from a perfectionist like Saban.

Combine that with the history Coach Kelly has with Rees at Notre Dame and I think you will see the hand writing on the wall.

You mean the play that should have been a walk in touchdown?

Rees would be a solid hire

That’s the question. Do they put in a place holder at Bama?

They may not have a choice.

it was a pretty good call. he had a td if he went left and followed his blocks. he panicked after the bad snap IMO.
i think there may have even been a rb open on that play as well, but again he panicked.

Rees has been picked for OC by Saban, Freeman, and Kelly.

Sloan was picked by Vastmind and the TD echo chamber.

Gee, I don’t know who to trust here.

Tbf, Rees was somewhat forced on Freeman. And Saban has not been the best at picking coordinators in his later years.

I’m not letting that hold as much weight you are.
