re: I expect an OC that runs a spread, up tempo offense, that can get the play in in time....

Spread isnt the only way to win nowadays. A regular old Pro style offense can still get it done if you are balanced. There is nothing wrong with the toss dive Les used to run, you just have to be able to throw the ball too for it to work.

How many people on this board right now think Kelly runs an old school, pro-set/heavy twin TE offense? I’d like a show of hands.
Then I’d like you to google ND highlights from this year and kindly STFU.

How many times did LSU beat Bama with that play? How about NEVER? Lsu lost to Bama like 8 times in a row with that offense despite having massively talented WR and overall talent very close to Bama.
Time to accept that offense is from another century.

Nothing wrong with running off tackle, just don't do it when the defense is expecting it.
So sure, run off tackle sometimes, but don't telegraph it. Use 4 wideouts to spread the defense to show pass ... then run off tackle.
Les' problem (among others) was that he ran the toss-dive out of an obvious run formation, with 2 TEs and only one WR. The defense knew it was coming and therefore it was easy to stop.
Having a run/pass balance is important, but what's equally important is to keep the defense guessing which one is coming.
Les was a moron.
