Feeling a little blueballed on such a short finale. I imagine if they hadn’t got the renewal greenlit that there was an alternate ending. Fantastic season all around though.

I’m halfway through the finale and the entire episode has been so damn tense. What an unbelievably well done show.
ETA: FUUUUUUUCK THAT ENDING. Might as well had written “Not Penny’s Boat” on Mark S’s hand

Well that last episode delivered. No wonder Helly was such a bitch to herself.

This has been such a refreshing series. Great world building and tense mystery!
Stiller has mastered the cliff hanger. Thankfully there was some relief granted from that build up of a finale!

One of the best episodes of any show I've ever seen.
Even if the show doesn't get renewed, I'm very interested to see Stiller transition to more drama/suspense, either as a director or actor.
I was getting pissed that NO ONE was coming close to the goal of telling someone what was going on. Then in the last ~10 minutes Mark and Helly got it done.
Irving was a mess though. Even if he thought that he could trust outie Burt, odds are that they don't know each other. Irving transitioned to his outie with paint in his hands. He should have just written all over the walls to stay the frick away from Lumon.

Yeah Irving should have left a message for himself.
But that pain they went through of not knowing how long they had made everything important and difficult.
I'm so glad Helly got to tell that stuff out before the change back. I would have been furious otherwise.
I guess we know now for sure that Cobel is a sociopath and never had good intentions for Mark.
I'll post some more thoughts later. But that episode was like an LSD trip, mind-altering.
I kind of love that this show isn't so well-known on and on Apple TV+ because if it were on HBO it would become such a phenomenon that every douche you know would claim to be a fan and it would get hyped up so much it would lose a lot of its power. Just my opinion.

How did Irving already have Burt’s house marked on a map?

I've been wondering the same thing. But we've seen how his subconscious (innie) has been affecting his outtie in his paintings of the testing floor door and hallway. So his innie might not have understood the map either.
It seems like maybe the Lumon employees are all dead (except for maybe Helly) and for some sick reason Lumon is keeping them alive inside the building. Especially due to Cobel's statement, 'We are going to keep them ALIVE and SUFFERING inside.' But maybe some are clones and some have been brought back to life.
The 'she's alive' is a very Frankensteinian reference to me. As in reanimated even though that may not be what Mark meant and I might be reaching there.
Also, it definitely seems like Irving lives inside the same 'neighborhood' as Mark and Cobel because of when we saw Cobel hauling arse in her car past Irving.

Fair point

Not sure about this since Mark’s family never mention that he was lucky to survive or anything like that. Plus Dylan’s closet scene showed Milchick showed up as it appeared to be business as usual at his house with his kid there.

Makes sense, they mentioned in a prior episode that Lumon subsidized the housing there.

I think Petey may have gotten to Irv too before he died. That would explain the research and maps.
I also feel Irving was allowed to walk with Burt up until Burt was 'retired' into the testing room and it traumatized his innie to the point that it's coming through subconsciously to his outie.
That's what I think after reading thoughts on reddit.

What a great finale, the interaction with Mark and his sister were brilliant.
Every character is so well played, I am fully invested in where this story goes from here.

I think Irv is working on investigating Lumon, either on his own or with another group. He had lists of employees and their spots on maps. His outie was working on something of this nature to be sure.
Ms Cobel is unreal. She backs down to no one and everyone she deals with is intimidated by her, or scared. In the last episode, she had Milichik shook a couple of times.
I still can't get it out of my head that by going out and waking up in the life of their outies, the issues coming in the future will not just be with outing Lumon, but the innies deciding they want the life of the outie. I really think in the future there will be internal battles. We already see it in Helly. If Helly could turn on the OTC permanently and end Helena's life, she would do it in a second.

It’s the best show I’ve seen in recent times. The finale was an edge of your seat, nervous nail biter. Can’t wait for s2 but at the same time always afraid it won’t live up to expectations

That would certainly be an interesting twist, but wasn't Ms. Cobel/Selvig leaving Ricken’s house, headed to the Lumon gala?

Yeah, it’s not clear that the map with Burt’s house had anything to do with innie-Irving’s attachment to Burt. He had a list of Lumon employees and addresses, with multiple names written on the map.

I thought Helly was going to wind up having security haul her arse out of the Gala, which would have been awesome. It’s a bit of a plot hole that she even got to Helly without someone seeing her and calling security. Remember the girl who introduced Helly is the same girl that fired Cobel. But that’s a minor issue in what was otherwise an awesome season finale.

The show raises some interesting philosophical questions. Right now innie and outie Helly are, for all intents and purposes, two different people. But they share a body and a brain, and the only thing separating them is the severance chip.
What happens if they re-integrate? Now all of a sudden they are one person with shared memories. So which personality becomes dominant? Innie Helly has maybe a few months worth of memories while outie Helly has like 30 years. I don’t think “re-integrated” Helly is a drastically different person than outie Helly. She already knows her innie tried to kill herself and she went back to work anyway.
Last thought: that scene with Helly and her father was weird as frick. There’s something going on there.
