I don’t mean to imply that the only reason he’s doing it is to prevent LSU from getting the kid.

I agree with you that Saban has genuine interest in Steen. That said, Hi I wholeheartedly believe Saban views Steen as an insurance policy to protect against the possibility that his young 5* OTs don’t materialize come kick off in early September.

Furthermore, bringing in a grad transfer with significant SEC experience is one hell of a way to motivate his young tackles to work their asses off or else lose their job to the elder statesman.

Okay, I screwed up. I didn't know he was in the transfer portal.

Saban will absolutely take a player we critically need just to frick us.

That’s his “louisiana strategy “

Yes he strengthened a unit and thereby took a quality prospect off our board simply to annoy “us”

Where is the kid's dad, the LSU alum, in all this? Shouldn't he see that the path to immediate playing time is on our roster, carrying on the family legacy?

Billy Cannon Jr. didn't carry on the family legacy.

He had too much of his momma in him. No, j/k he had too much A&M in him. Jr. had busted back injured out, he should get a pass.

Steen’s father didn’t graduate from LSU - he only attended LSU for a short time before transferring to a smaller school.

And you have a valid point about the playing time availability at Alabama vs. LSU. It seems more likely that LSU provides a quicker path to becoming a starting OT than does Bama.

There is only one other issue that may have been a hangup for Steen & LSU, and that would be Marcus Dumervil. I don’t know the extent of Tyler‘s relationship to Marcus but I would assume they are friends since they played the same position at St. Thomas Aquinas high school years ago. And even though Dumervil is not a starting OT yet, I wonder if this Steen family felt like they would be setting Marcus back by transferring to LSU and potentially taking over at one of the tackle positions.

In a recent interview, Steen‘s father told a reporter that they were not looking to “replace anyone” at whatever school he transfers too.

Made me wonder if he was throwing that out there kinda as an olive branch to the Dumervil family. You would imagine the Steen family is probably friends with the Dumervil family, seeing as how their boys played Two years of high school football together

Yep. That's plausible.

Vanderbilt OL transfer Tyler Steen's decision has been made per his father. There was some expectation of an announcement earlier this week, but after visiting UCLA last weekend it was pushed back. Expect an announcement regarding his choice soon.

I'm almost ready to move on from Steen.
You either want to be here or you don't.
I think we're going to get Sevyn Banks though.

No I don’t believe he did it just to piss LSU off.

I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility that he did it in order to prevent LSU from getting a good player and becoming a better team.

This is exactly why he did it,but I read that he was taking another unexpected visit to a different school.

You conveniently left out the part of the father's quote that provides context and lends credence to the other poster's assumption:

"In a recent interview, Steen‘s father told a reporter that they were not looking to “replace anyone” at whatever school he transfers too."
Your credibility is fer shite, Pansy.
