I have always thought you didn’t but a buddy swears you do. If you look on the WLF website at the dividing line Maurepas is shaded in as saltwater. But the rivers that feed it should be freshwater correct??

any body of water that connects to saltwater is considered as brackish and you need a saltwater license to fish it.
doesnt matter if you are 5 miles up the canal, if it connects to saltwater the entire canal is considered as brackish water needing a saltwater license
honestly, there is so much water everywhere you may as well have a saltwater license even if you never go fish the coast

No. If you possess saltwater fish though, it is required. So if you caught a redfish while fishing in the rivers, you'd need a saltwater license in order to keep it.

Another poster posted the link. Here is an image of the line.
Fishing anywhere in the hatched area (basically the intracoastal waterway and anyplace south of that) requires a saltwater license even if it is freshwater.

If in doubt, Just add saltwater on to the license. It’s $5 or $10 bucks! It’s not like you’re paying for a deer hunting license and all you want to do is shoot squirrels.

I'm not giving the government a single penny more than I have to. They are already charging citizens to exercise a God given right.

If you live below I-10, I don't know why you wouldn't, TBH.

quote:The correct answer is to buy a lifetime fishing license. It covers basic (freshwater) & saltwater fishing.

This. If you are below I-10, just have it.
Also I'm with above poster, just add the extra $10.

You’ll be paying more than a penny if you get caught fishing without the proper license.

I think you only need fresh

You don't need a saltwater license for any of the Florida Parish waterways. A lifetime license is the cheapest way out.
