re: What would you do if your pastor admits to his congregation that he committed adultery...

but some Protestant churches celebrate that kind of thing for some reason.
Is that worse than covering up pedophilia?
You act like these things are mutually exclusive. Protestant churches covered up abuses just like the Catholic ones did. The main difference was that due to the decentralized structure of Protestant movements, they weren't an easy target to sue for a payday.

This was her spiritual leader.
The spiritual leaders in my church have no authority over my children I don't give them. The husband is the point of contact for the church. If you put your children in a church run by a creep and subject your daughter to being alone with him and abdicate your position as protector, that's on you. You are an idiot and probably a pervert, maybe not saved. That's why it matters. This is a parenting failure first and foremost. It is a tragedy, but occurs frequently in scripture.

Her husband specifically mentioned grooming.
Her husband is a second hand biased witness. Again, she "had an affair" with a married man. That involves some culpability. The largest share is on the pastor, of course and I said that, but she sinned. She has to come to terms with that, confess her sin, or she will never move on. Blaming others for your behavior is as old as Adam and Eve.

including Indiana, would make this a legal act with a stranger but illegal with a person in a position of authority.
This is ridiculous, puritanical, marxist nonsense and immaterial to the biblical question of responsibility.

Wouldn't surprise me at all to learn he used biblical references to groom the girl. Manipulators manipulate.

Me either. With a healthy dose of the world's philosophy on "love" such as the tried but true "you can't help who you love" and "love is never wrong" or "if this is wrong, why does it feel so right?" or "God would want you to happy wouldn't he?"
Nevertheless the Bible is clear that adultery is always wrong. Just depends on who you believe

As a dad, when grown men start hanging around my daughters my hackles go up. Either he's completely clueless or he liked the attention she was getting or he just watched it happen.

We can go on all day about failings of the parents, but that's not what we were talking about. We're talking about your comment laying culpability with the juvenile girl.

Sounds like she's been trying to talk about it for years.

Groomers love to distort the situation to make the child blame him- or herself. Working this out isn't as easy for a victim as you make it sound.

You've got that backwards, buddy. Holding people accountable for grooming isn't Marxist. Grooming kids is Marxist.

Damn shame the pastor didn't consult you for his confession speech. You'd have helped fully bury his victim...all while keeping it "biblical".

A juvenile girl who knows right from wrong, has at least a passing familiarity with her Bible presumably, and therefore knows it's wrong to have sex with strange men, especially when married, and yet went ahead and did it anyway.
It sounds like she had an on-going relationship with him. Her parents own some blame, the pastor owns blame. She also has blame in this situation and I would assume enjoyed herself at the time even with the guilt. If she knew it was wrong and went ahead and did it anyway, she's wrong. There were likely several opportunities for her to put the brakes on the situation and back out, tell her parents, get someone involved. For whatever reason she did not.
You can argue the legalities of power and struggle and whatever marxist positions you want to take. I'm talking about biblical guilt and she has some that she needs to deal with God.
It is an ugly tragic situation. Glad the guy stepped down. Not defending him. But everyone involved has a piece of the pie.
And yes. I would expect my daughter to know better by 16. That's not an outrageous statement to make. If she didn't, I wouldn't leave her alone with a grown man.

As much as you try to tie me to supporting him, I am not. He needed to step down. He was very wrong. He should be disqualified from pastoring forever and almost any other ministry for a long time. That doesn't mean he can't be forgiven and should never be allowed in church again.

He resigned. I'm pretty sure statute of limitations would apply and quite frankly 16 is old enough to know better. He would be sitting the pew for for a while at least.
look at this piece of shite trying to deflect blame from the pastor and placing it on the 16 year old minor girl.
the religious crowd relies on being seen as holier than art thou so they can judge others from their pedestal
also never couldve guessed it would be one from the MAGA crowd

Were there? You super familiar with all this besides a FB video?
Or how about this guys her 40 year old pastor, telling her god knows what he'll do to her if she tells, on top of think about my children and wife, you'll ruin them. You'll hurt everyone. Not him. Her.
He was still doing it in the video.

I’m sure I’m not the first to bring this up, but the girl was 16. As the father of an almost 18 yr old daughter if it was my kid with a 45 year old I’d go scorched earth. Also being the father of an almost 18 yr old daughter, I wouldn’t now nor would I have a year ago want to tangle with that hell cat. I raised her right, a little bit country, a little bit classy, and a whole handful if u get her mad lol. All that to say again, the girl was 16…unless she was some sickly little being she was plenty old enough to at very least put up a fight and leave fricking marks. This is only pointing a finger of guilt at the girl also, NOT excusing a grown arse man from trying to or in this case laying with a fricking girl. My opinion she shouldn’t be playing the victim, and the man needs a lynching.

Again, where were her parents? How stupid and clueless do you have to be to allow this to continue?

Easy to say when you weren't there. I guarantee a young girl like that - raised in the church like that- to be told over and over men are her betters, was never going to put up a fight and he knew it.
Not to mention what this guy said and did to her to keep her from telling.

she was a fully grown woman at conception (and definitely before 6 weeks), shouldn't have needed parents to look out for her
