Dry 2023

Anyone else going for the entire year?
Seeing the Dry January thread helped me to abstain. Maybe a year long thread can offer the same support.
This isn't a thread to condemn alcohol use. I think drinking in moderation is fine. The past few years I only had 2-3 drinks every 3-5 days, but I got to where even if I had a pour of bourbon my sleep was shite and I felt a little off kilter the next day. Alcohol is fun, but to me it is not worth the reward.
If anyone wants to join, jump in here. If not, no replied will kill the thread soon enough.

The older you get, the harder the hit from alcohol. Feeling better was all the motivation I needed to give it up permanently. Just crossed the 24 year mark. Best decision ever for me. You got to do you though.

I did dry january and feel great so plan to keep this going. I'm in for perhaps just being done drinking.

Made it through dry January and I might be like tom Brady and retiring for good this time.
These non alcoholic craft beers are so good now that I think I can trick my ol coonass brain into thinking I'm still crushing drinks at the camp.
Looking and feeling good. Hangovers are sucking worse. And lord knows I've had my fun.

I’m in! Did all of January and want to do the entire year. Total support from me and I look forward to checking in with everyone. Biggest challenge for me in the near future will be a wedding in Napa. The weekend of the local wine festival. Vacation with no kids to vineyards.
Maybe they’ll be other things in California I can partake in.

It’s really not. It makes you feel like shite and greatly degrades your qualify of life in every way even if you do it once a week. I feel so much better since I quit drinking it’s actually hard to believe

I agree that it's not right for me.
What I mean is that I think it's fine for others as long as they aren't lying to themselves. If you can truly drink in moderation and/or like drinking enough that you want to keep doing it, you won't get judgement from me, so long as you aren't trying to pass it off as healthy or sticking your head in the sand about its ill effects.
I'm with you, though. Even when I imagine having a drink I think about the half hour to hour of reward and then the effects that it will have on me for the ensuing 36 hours and I feel trapped. Easier to abstain completely.

Bottom line is people need something to replace alcohol with that is more desirable, fulfilling or exciting. Basically design your life in a way that leaves no room for it.

January was easy. Feb will be also. I have some business/client development trips planned for March, so it will be difficult. But the one thing I have to learn is that falling off the wagon doesn't have to be the end. You have to get right back on.
I lost 11 in Jan, mostly from not drinking and skipping breakfast (doing the 16:8 IF). 25 by the end of March is within reach.

I don't plan to go fully dry, but the month off really made me realize how much even one or 2 drinks on a weeknight can affect how I feel in the morning. I am now much more aware of drinking habits, and plan on cutting back a ton moving forward.

Idk bruh monkeys make their own alcohol by putting spoiled fruit into volcanic vents
And they can deadlift like 800 lbs
Feel like y’all are making excuses

Bumping.
If you're out there trying you aren't alone.
Still going strong, 36 days dry.

I'm at about 1 year and 3 months. I just made the decision to cut it out completely. Giving myself a certain time frame break wasn't going to work. Was just waiting until it was "okay" and started with the bad drinking habits again. Once I said never again, it wasn't hard at all. I have replaced bourbon with cigars. Not a great habit, but better results than my drinking, haha
