My wife loves her 2021 Outback Touring and it will virtually drive itself on the highway as long as you keep a hand near the wheel and your eyes looking forward. I traded in a 2013 Mazda CX-9 and my insurance went down when we bought it because it has so many safety features.

They are known for head gasket failures and burning oil.

This has been corrected for a decade and wasn’t all engines.

My 2008 Forester is going strong. I had preventative head gasket rebuild at 105k and they did all belts, water pump at same time for under $2k. I tow my utility trailer with it and drive in shitty mountain weather including crazy snow and ice. If I’m a lesbian then so be it.

No. I’m not a member of LGBQT. You should check the soccer board.

Never looked twice at a Subaru in my life til my neighbor bought one of these new a few months ago.. It’s a Subaru Outback “Wilderness Edition” and it’s so cool looking that it makes me want to drive up into the mountains for a few days, and im not even a camping /hiking guy.. it looks similar to the pic below, but looks better in person.. reminds me a little of those cool AMC Eagle 4x4s that were popular circa 40 yrs ago .

Fwiw she is mid-late 20s, really cute and not a lesbian

.

ETA i lied, when i was a very small child in the late 1970s my parents were car shoppping and i remember being at a car lot in Metry looking at Subaru Brats .. those were some odd-looking vehicles

Grocery getter is an 2022 outback. Been a great car. Balance of power and fuel economy. Enjoy the awd on gravel roads and rain.

The safety features get annoying but that is every new car.

Don't even hesitate to buy one. I traded my truck for an Outback in 2018 and am now on my second one - I was rear-ended by a Dodge Ram going 45-55 in my first one while at a stop, and while I obviously felt it, I walked away with no issues. Unfortunately I had a 3.6l limited and all their engines are 2.4l now. I opted for a Wilderness with the turbo which helps and appreciate the little bit of extra clearance.

They are excellent cars. One of the few car makers still building cars in Japan.
Ascent, Impreza, Legacy and Outback models are built (or at least assembled) right here in (the other) Lafayette.

There are a LOT of Subarus on the road here - people really like them. (including me, FWIW).

Been really happy with mine.

Got it primarily for driving in snowy/icy conditions in the mountains, and with a good set of winter tires crossed the divide some 150+ times this winter with no trouble.

Reliable enough (dont expect Toyota levels, but its good), gets good gas milage, and like I said handled some nasty conditions.

I do wish I had more clearance for some of the FS roads and that I could have gotten a turbo, as i do find it lacks power going uphill.

When I was picking out cars last year I actually test drove a Subaru and absolutely loved it. I was very surprised with it. I ended up going a different route because the Subaru (at the time) was on back order for 3-4 months and the car I ended up with was only 3-4 weks out. I am happy with my new car but I was indeed impressed and suprised with the Subaru

CVT transmission, just like a Rogue, Honda CRV . Will have tranny issues.

We got the Ford Edge AWD for the wife.
We researched the outback and were set to buy the next morning. We both read two pages and looked at each other. “ did you see all that about the cvt tranny”. “. Yep “.

You realize you just defeated your own argument, right? No one should have to do head gaskets at 105k. I've had Hondas and Toyotas that went to 300k and all I did was oil changes.
