This is actually a good point. It’s not operating like a bass boat. Reversing is also slow because you have to slow your forward momentum, and in reverse you don’t have a ton of steering control due to the rudder. It’s a main reason that there are tug boats in harbors.

They may have done a Williamson or Scharnow turn.

If you are telling the truth, and since this is a very famous event in sailing, you should start a thread and tell us about it.

I’d rather not tbh as I lost some close friends during that event. There’s been plenty of books written about it by others who chose to express what it was like for them. It’s not something I’ll ever forget but it’s not something I like to talk about much.

Other than the third hand accounts originating from a bunch of teenagers is there any evidence that the captain and/or crew didn’t do everything possible?

Was the buoy attached to the boat with a rope or was it detached and free floating?

And to the POS that continously claims she know it was a shark attack,

IMO, LSUAngelHere is a poster child for poor media literacy. If anyone wants to understand how not to consume information just peruse their posts. Literal lunacy.

The shark reversing course and it's fin causing disturbance coincides PERFECTLY with young Cam reversing course. Why else would he swim away from the orange buoy that he was making good progress towards?

Way too many people in this thread are presuming that this kid was thinking clearly and making sound decisions.. Well,we know for a 100% certainty that he wasnt making sound decisions since he took a bet to jump off a boat/ship in a foreign country… And i feel pretty well confident in assuming he was fairly drunk and disoriented, as well as possibly not the best decision-maker.. So let’s not use too much logic in re to the dead boy’s actions .

Watched the video again. He's swimming toward the buoy. *Something* swirls the water in front of him and he stops. Camera pans away for a moment. When it pans back, he's still treading water. Then he turns around in the opposite direction, glances over his shoulder and starts swimming away fast. I can't say it was a shark. But it's pretty clear something spooked him.

A boy apparently jumped from the boat. He hasn’t been found and searches have been called off. He’s presumed deceased. People are arguing about whether there was a shark in the area. People are even posting grainy screenshots. That doesn’t matter. A boy is gone. Stop the ridiculous arguments. Think of his family and friends. They have to learn to live life with this.

Cannot believe a paid booze cruise is not required by insurance to have a skiff on board that can be launched.

They probably have a small boat that’s used by the crew for maintenance but it’s stowed away. It likely they have inflatables for life rafts.

If the boat was underway it’s faster to turn the boat around rather than stop and launch a small boat.

Was there only one buoy on the boat?

I wish they had thought to throw lots of anything that floats overboard to make him easier to find after turning around. Hard for drunk kids to think of things like that on the fly.

If you don’t start one I can make a thread and describe it and request you to come tell your story if that’s easier for you.

If you don’t make one by Sunday I can knock it out for you next Monday no problem

Best thing and probably only thing you can do is qbeam the shite out of him while the boat attempts to turn around. Boat probably wasn't equipped with that and wasn't prepared for someone jumping out. However they should be prepared for man overboard.
But you got to understand this isn't flat lake water. You talking swells and a boat wake and a massive suction from the props.

Even if you think it's a shark there is zero evidence he was attacked by them..

At first I was thinking no way it was a shark, now I am getting closer to 50/50 with the quotes below ( I know it is Daily Mail, but the quotes appear to be legit)

quote:

Providing an update yesterday, Royal Bahamas Defense Force (RBDF) Commodore Raymond King confirmed that the area where Robbins went overboard is 'really shark infested.'

quote:

Cmdre King provided an update Monday on the situation after the search was suspended last week.

He said: 'The probability of survival decreases significantly particularly if a person did not have on a life vest and particularly if a person is perceived to be intoxicated.

'I can tell you that area where an individual reportedly jumped over, it's an area that is really shark infested as well. It is so unfortunate but I don't want the family to lose hope.'

The lack of evidence is the evidence. I believe he was taken by sharks unfortunately
