Anyone know a good remedy other than a .22 to keep coons from eating feed?
I put protein/corn mix in a trough and they are in it nightly as much if not longer than the deer are.

Caught a bunch of them on the dog proofs but would catch a lot more if I could get to my place more often.
You have to have two days. Set one and check the second. I take dog food in a gallon zip lock bag and pour a little fish oil over it. Pour in the trap and a little around the trap.
I secure mine with baling wire on one end and the other to a tree.

Mama used to sweep coons off the porch with a broom.

Feed them for a few weeks and they'll come right up close to you in big groups a lot of times, then just taken them out with a shotgun or something you can get most of them at once.
The other, probably better option, is to just set out a bunch of traps.

Varmints are out of control since trapping has nearly gone away.
Killing the turkey population and hit the feeders big time.
I shoot every varmint I see.

have you tried a "no coons allowed" sign at the trough? how about a $5.00 cover charge? or a toll booth? or feeding liver and onions instead of corn (coons HATE liver & onions)

I mean it would work, but I do agree trapping is the better of those two options. Too many times as a kid I had to pick up trash those frickers would somehow knock over the trashcan and go through it.

Havahart traps have worked best for me. You can pick up the cage with coon inside and haul them several miles and dump. My best method was to just leave the trapped coon in the cage, and let it slowly die (no food or water). It freaks out all the other coons and they will steer clear.
They are just pests and no better than rats.

That’s funny!
I’m not surprised at all. Just wondered if anyone had a non lethal way of dealing with them.
