I do both in barrel and out but I usually spray water on it from the hose but only just to be careful about any seals in the lower (its a cast lower the old kind) but Idk how true that it as its run fine on the trailer with no water, ...

The builders said use 93 which I do not like doing but have been doing since what do I know, which concerns me but new hose and hose clamps aren't hard to deal with if need be.
