Underground hydrogen could be the new oil/gas

Exploration is ramping up around the world so if it goes well there could be vast resources of hydrogen found in the ground. And unlike oil and gas, it's continually being produced at depth by a reaction between iron-rich rocks and water. There are all kinds of historical reports of hydrogen from oil wells and there's a working field in Mali that produces it for 50 cents/kg.
The attraction is that it's a zero carbon fuel that can be used for commercial transportation to begin with and maybe cars if the volume of storage needed can be shrunk although low temps needed are a problem. Can also be used as a fuel source at power plants, Entergy's new plant near Orange is planned to have hydrogen capability. Replacing gas in homes is theoretically possible too.
It's not totally clean as burning it creates Nox emissions like any similar combustion process.
As with all green shite, I'm just interested in money making potential. I have a very small investment in a company on the verge of drilling their first well in South Australia and I'm sure we'll see more public companies going after the resource nearish-term.

I feel like I’ve heard more recent chatter about hydrogen fuel cells recently. Is this about to blow up, no pun intended?

Explosive News if true

If you live in LA you need to be against this. Right now we have a pretty good thing going with the OG industry. A lot of lively hoods depend on it therefore we have to keep the status quo.

pretty sure hydrogen is fake.

Is that why all their regional corporate offices and HQ’s moved to Houston? .

lively hoods
Definitely a lot of lively hoods in La.

With all of the investment in batteries, nuclear, hydrogen and even potentially fusion, things will change. It'll probably take a decade but there's no stopping the next gen tech.
Louisiana's not doing a bad job attracting business for the "green" economy. I'm also invested in Origin Materials, which plans to build their first large chemical facility in Geismar.

I'm pretty sure that LA is one of the states taking the leads on hydrogen production.
It's the Oil and Gas industry afterall and Louisiana has tons of natural gas.

Yes Louisiana for once is in on the ground floor of this. And it’s good because this is the next O&G boom

I work for a company that sells compressed hydrogen, and can confirm that in the last 12-18 months our hydrogen business has been booming. We can’t keep a full bulk trailer on the yard to save our lives.

Funny how you and others assume oil isn’t continually being produced as well

Uuuhhh, most hydrogen is obtained through steam methane reforming. So uh, invest in gas extraction.

Hydrogen will power planes and ocean going vessels before anything else does…trains and big rigs also.
