Friend,

The biggest problem with cheese made in America is that it is made with pasteurized milk. The minute you taste unpasteurized cheese in Europe is the minute you realize there is no great cheese in America.

Friend, although not all cheese in America is made with pasteurized milk, I do agree with your assessment. Raw milk and raw milk products such as cheese are vastly superior to our over pasteurized dairy.

Get the Fairlife milk, and you'll never have that problem.

I drink a lot of milk.. years ago I noticed the problem you described with regular milk.. . I also bump around a lot from my primary house to a recreation property.. I started buying the organic because I can leave the carton opened in one house and go to the other for a few weeks and come back and milk is still good.. I get the three pack organic from Costco or horizon organic..

It will last the length they say on the carton which is as long time.. they do not clean the milk with chemicals but superheat it under pressure to clean it so it was treated differently and stays good much longer.

I have found that Costco milk lasts close to a week past the expiration date most of the time

Truth.

One of my kids seems a little sensitive to lactose so I’ve been buying Fairlife recently. Twice the protein and half the sugar of regular milk and it stays good for a couple months.

If you are buying regular milk keep it in the main part of the fridge and close to the back if you can. Not in the door. Those couple degrees make a big difference.

Friend,

Where do you get your unpasteurized cheese? Every time I go to a local fromager, whether in Alabama or North Carolina or Oregon, the cheese, while good, is always made with pasteurized milk and does not reach the heights of European cheeses made with real milk. There is an apparent lack of turophiles here, but I am glad to have found one in you and look forward to your suggestions, which I will try.

Check the temperature setting on your fridge

Also don't store the milk on a shelf on a door. The door opening every time you go in the fridge means things kept on the door don't stay as cold as those on the shelves in the fridge.

Could be our new fridge but store it near the back and it is lasting much longer now.

Costco milk seems to have a stay fresh period like 3 times longer than any other milk.

I was surprised the first time I bought milk there.

Yeah, this happen to me. We stored the milk in the French door and it was spoiling before the end date and then we moved it inside and no issues since then.

I find off brand or store brand milk spoils faster than name brand.

Milk also starts the process of going bad as soon as you open it, as bacteria enters the packaging as soon as you do so. This means you may buy Ultra High Pasteurized (UHP) with an expiration date 30 days from now. However, if you open it today, it will go sour long before the expiration date.

its been a problem for a while now.

check the dates carefully, most you find expire within 2 days of you buying it because its already 2 weeks old before it ever reaches the store

Agreed. Kleinpeter lasts longer than store brand. Costco lasts longer than Kleinpeter. Fairlife lasts longer than anything.

I drink Fairlife, but I have to make a conscious effort not to smell it. Smells like sulfur even when it's fresh.

I sure have, and this includes the organic milk. We just don't drink that much milk in our house, but when we do, we buy organic from Aldi. The past 2 times we have bought it, we have had to throw it out almost two weeks before the exp. date. Sounds like some false advertising to me.

I don't know. I live in the NE, and I have to go out of my way a bit to get it. I feel like it's well worth it.
