I was at a Mexican restaurant in Victoria, Texas, and the chef came out, nice old, Mexican lady, to see my newborn. She wanted to hold her , I said sure, and then she walked away with my baby into the kitchen . wife came back from the bathroom like, uh, where’s our baby. I was like , dunno. Baby showed up about 30 seconds later.

I always let the cashier hold my baby. Hell, some chick at Raceway dropped my youngest on the floor and we got a $9 million settlement. Went home and fixed that baby with $9 worth of JB Weld and miso soup.

This thread is damn puzzling to me. I have never had kids, but I am totally suprised that perfect strangers would even consider asking to hold your baby. Honestly, I wouldn’t feel one bit comfortable holding someone else’s baby.

Coming from a small town with leftover "agricultural" families I understand several of the previous posts and would bet the OP grew up in a similar place. Hard not to let Aunt Jemima get a spin with a fresh baby in your hometown.

I wouldn’t ask to hold a stranger’s baby, much less walk out of sight with it.

As we were walking in the store I heard a few of the cashiers make a comment about the baby. Went to checkout and the first girl standing at the end waiting for customers says, "he's adorable, can I hold him?"
She clearly was kind so I said sure. She held him while making small talk and ringing up the groceries. Manager, older black lady, was watching while smiling as well.
Son was eating it up
He was smiling and touching the side of her face laughing every time she'd cut her eyes over. He's going to be a handful later on that's for sure
