If you or Nuss can't handle any competition, then we don't need you as a fan or him as our quarterback. QB 1 is earned not given!

We have Nuss and Collins today with Hurley on the way. We do not need to muddy the waters for 25 as long as we are in it for Underwood. If they want to bring in a guy for 1 year only who will likely be the backup (think Sanders at Ole Miss), fine. But we do NOT need any underclassman transfers fricking up what may be one of the best offensive classes we’ve ever had.

I don’t even understand how that is disrespecting Nussmeier. He’s behind a really good QB. And depending how the offseason goes he could end up a transfer candidate. I personally think it’s his job to lose.

would Nuss have a negative reaction to bringing in another QB though? I’

They have to bring in someone else.

It has NOTHING to do with Nuss.

Agreed. Yes, you want to put the best team on the field you possibly can, but living out of the transfer portal for your offensive leader will KILL your recruiting for that spot. Who would want to go to LSU if they consistently replace the "highly recruited" QB with the "deal of the year" every year? And what happens if one year, there's no deal to be found?

The transfer portal is huge, but we should be looking at ways to use it to supplement recruiting, not replace it.

I think we gotta get somebody for at least experienced depth. Otherwise Nuss is backed up by a 2nd year guy with like 5 snaps to his name.

Michael Pratt from Tulane. If I were CBK and Denbrock, that’s my guy

He’s going to end up at a major Power 5 school and take them to the next level. Auburn, Ole Miss, Bama, hell even Michigan and FSU come calling. He will be in demand

What would you do to all the posters who went out of their way to diss JD for the last 2 years?

If they dip into the portal for another QB it will be for a veteran backup. Nussmeier is the starter next year unless he transfers. Which means you can cross off a lot of guys that are already successful at their current schools. No big fish are going to come to LSU to sit.

I like Nuss, but I don't think it's dissing Nuss to consider all options. This type of attitude reminds me of the Myles Brennan loyalists. I hope Nuss is awesome as a starter here.

A LOT of people on here were angry when LSU took Daniels. They felt Brennan had "paid his dues" and deserved to start. They also felt Nussmeier should be given a shot, and LSU had a 5-star in Howard. Daniels' transfer in essentially ended Brennan's LSU career and people were pissed because it wasn't "right".

I think Nussmeier could be a great QB. And right now there is no one in the portal who you can look to and say "that guy is clearly better." But that could change. If a multi-year starter with a significant history of success enters the portal you at least have to consider if he may be a better option than a guy on your roster who you might like, but has little meaningful experience or history of meaningful success.

It that fair? Maybe not. But I don't think any rational fan today is still angry Brennan got passed over for a ASU transfer coming off a mediocre season.

I 100% think Nuss is the guy. Now, we need quality depth. We need to go out and get someone that can compete as a starter to push him along.

Very few QBs, with limited eligibility remaining, who were starters this past year are going to be looking to transfer to a school to just "compete" for a starting job. Particularly those who have a history of success. They will choose a school where they have some degree of assurance they will "likely" be the starter. That's why the staff went out and got them in the first place.

I promise you, Burrow didn't come to LSU just to "compete" for the job. Neither did Daniels. Those guys were "free agents" who could chose their destination. Burrow left OSU to find a starting job elsewhere. Daniels wasn't leaving 3 years of starting at ASU to go to a place where he likely would have been a backup. Those assurances are given on the front end...even if a coach publicly denies promising a transfer QB a starting job.

Now, if LSU wants to bring in someone like Tyler Buchner who started for ND, but was being replaced by a transfer, OK. But if they bring in someone who was good at a previous school it is to be the starter next year.

Again, I'm not saying they should or will bring in a transfer. I'm just saying they should (at least internally) discuss all options rather than preemptively declaring Nuss the starter and not at least looking to see what else might be out there.

I agree. That’s why I think (along with the other things I mentioned) that it would be improbable

Wouldn’t surprise me at all if they took a graduate transfer QB just to add some depth to the position but I don’t think it’s a secret that Nuss is going to be the guy next year.

So you want to give a "frick You" "we are bringing another transfer QB" to a guy who could have had his pick of schools and transferred out but chose to stay...Hmmm, good luck with recruiting QBs and high-character kids in the future if this is how you reward them..wow

I wouldn’t put it past CBK. Not one bit. I think he wants a true dual threat QB, and that ain’t Nuss.
