I see damn near everything. It was a few years before my time, etc. But I have somehow missed it. Funny enough I saw the remake with Joel Kinnaman, which I’m pretty sure I slept through (at least half) I think I even bought it online for 5 dollars or so.
Does it hold up? I love Peter Weller and Paul Verhoeven. The premise intrigues me.
Anyone else have a film that somehow slipped by? I’ve got a buddy that hasn’t seen T2 or Starship Trooper ( one of my favorite)

I love Robocop. The original. Haven't seen starship troopers.

The original was awesome. The remake is like most remakes. Cgi way too much and not as good as the original.

IMHO, it holds up.
Great design, over the top violence and humor, etc, means that it feels somewhat timeless instead of dating it.
Detroit of Robocop is still better than Detroit today.
Cops threatening to strike? Still relevant today.
Corporate / government overlap such as contracts to run the police / prisons / etc? Still relevant today.
It has the added bonus of a great cast besides Weller, as you have a bunch of great character actors including Kurtwood Smith (Red Forman from That 70s Show), Ronny Cox (Cohagen from Total Recall, a replacement to Picard on Star Trek TNG for one arc), Ray Wise (Leland Palmer from Twin Peaks), Miguel Ferrer (Albert from Twin Peaks, prolific voice actor), etc.
The director, Paul Verhoeven, originally threw the script in the trash until his wife read it and pointed out the Frankenstein / Jesus Christ imagery in there which he had fun with, along with a bunch of satire such as the futuristic commercials for products such as an artificial heart and the 6000 SUX car.

Robocop is basically a retelling of the story of Jesus but for America.

It was set in Detroit but was surprisingly filmed in Dallas.

Its holds up extremely well as both an action sci fi and like Starship Troopers a satirical comedy.
Robocop 2 is also a lot of fun imo. Its a sillier film than the first and gets shite on by most but it has its moments.
Forget Robocop 3 even exist.

yes it holds up very well in my opinion. you got a remember its quality and aesthetics are a product of its time, which isn't a bad thing if you ask me. it very much feels like an 80s action movie, which frankly, might be the best era of action movies anyway. i would recommend you watch it. hell, i feel like booting it up and watching it now.
and to cross pollenate forums.A video game adaption very true to the original movie (yes weller does the VA) quite literally just came out, so if you're a gamer, check that out after watching the movie!
