Why are schools like Acadiana and Carencro in select? Aren’t they 5A publics?

It has to do with enrollment districts IIRC.

If you have the ability to pull from an entire geographic area as opposed to a specific district, you are generally considered select. This is why the likes of Karr are on there, as Orleans Parish generally abolished districts in the wake of Katrina in favor of open enrollment charters.

Select =/= Private

They changed the scope of “select” just prior to last football season which pulled a large number of public schools magnet components or open-enrollment since they were no longer bound by traditional attendance zones.

Open enrollment. They can pull from the entire parish.
