I sold an older Android phone that I wasn't using on FB Marketplace for $100 and got a message from a lady immediately wanting to buy it. No haggling at all. She lived in the same city so I told her to meet me at Walmart.

She shows up and texts me that her boyfriend's going to make the transaction and he gets out of the car, sketchy as hell, takes the phone, hands me $100 bill and bounces. I did not have a good feeling afterwards since it all took place so fast.

It looked legit and I went online and was trying to see if it was real. Nothing out of the ordinary. I even had my FIL look at it and he said it looked real.

Went to the bank on Monday to deposit at the drive through and they told me to come in. They told me it was a counterfeit bill and I thought I was going to be in deep shite. I was showing everyone there the messages between us and they really weren't too concerned about it.

I ran an offset printing press while I was in graduate school. The guy who ran the place told me that no printer who ever ran a press hasn’t tried to print some money. I asked him if he had and he walked into his office and brought some really good ten dollar bills. Strangely, they all had the same serial number.

He laughed and said it ain’t that hard until you get caught and eventually you will get caught. He said to be careful to not pass one on a mob guy because they will hunt you down for $10.00 and hurt you bad when they catch you.

It was funny because he had one finger mangled.

Did racism cause this?

Nope. White woman trying to pass the bill and a white woman behind counter.

took meticulous effort to create fake small bills, washing, cutting and using a makeshift printer with trial and error for mostly 1s and 5s… but a lot of them. He was an engineer by training and strangely dedicated to this newfound craft. It worked well and he used the bills for a while on small purchases, gas and the like. Of course until the fuzz caught up with him when he went larger with 20s and a clerk ran a pen across one of them.

I’ve always said 10s would be the way to go. They rarely check them, and still big enough to add up t

I was at the Shell station and this woman threw a few candy bars on the counter and a big fountain drink and pulled out a fake looking $20. When the woman behind the counter told her, “we can’t take that.” The customer said,” oh, I must have grabbed the wrong one.” ( does everyone drive around with fake $20’s?)
She left the store and drove off, leaving her candy and drink on the counter.
After she was gone, the lady behind the counter said,” did you see what she tried to do?”
What possible outcome did the counterfeiter expect?!

Don't know, but she's lucky. The storekeeper isn't supposed to give fraudulent cash back they are supposed to immediately contact authorities.

What’s mind blowing is how come no engineer or anything has figured out how to copy the security features the govt uses?

Yeah, it seems like counterfeiting was a much bigger deal back in the day. Now it seems like counterfeit cash is everywhere and no one really gives too much of a shite about it.

I drive around with fake 20s and 100s to impress people all the time.

Obviously an amateur. The idea is to pass them in transactions that require 3 or 4 $20 bills and you pass them off 1 at a time. So 3 real 20s and 1 fake.

A Secret Service Agent had told me how the counterfeit dollars can get in to the money stream.....even with those pens. If the paper is high enough quality the pen at the register is worthless. The banks however can pick them up.

I'm going out on a limb and guessing getting shite for her fake money.

Her stuff and legitimate change.

My mother stopped at an ATM about 15 years ago and withdrew $100. 5- $20 bills. She then went to a convenience store and bought gas and a cup of coffee and used one of those $20 bills. It was fake. The cashier used the pen on it. Called the cops (Clayton County Georgia). Being hammers and all calls being nails they did what cops do and acted like she was a criminal mastermind and was the person who was making the counterfeit bills. After nearly an hour of having her in the back of the car she was released. She had the receipt from the ATM and the bills in question were the only ones she had in her possession. The truly infuriating part is that the bank had been aware that at least some of the cash they had on hand was not real and they continued to pass it as if it were for some reason. The police were also aware. A 70 year old woman about 5 foot tall and about 95 pounds driving a 20 year old Nissan and wearing tennis shoes about5 years old and the cops suspect her of being the master mind behind a well known counterfeiting organization....

I knew a girl that did this in high school. She would print them off on her dad's nicer printer, crumble them up a lot, then go buy a pack of smokes or candybar and pocket the change.

Kids are dumb and they will do anything for money.
