Company that I started working for in January did this cleverly.

In the reference period of the onboarding, one had to be a previous manager. They called all references.

Smart move, because good candidates will only give the current manager.

It was a last stage litmus test that also gave the notice for both parties.

Hardest interview process, but the best job I’ve ever earned.
