Well I didn't say that, so that's good.

But yes of course we are going to judge someone for walking into a restaurant and focusing on finding ways staff fricks up so they can have an excuse to tip poorly.

Everybody gets a participation trophy. And make no mistakes about it servers in today's world are participants at best.

Why is it my job to subsidize wealthy restauranteurs for not wanting to pay their servers a liveable wage?

Funny you say that. Most of the employees at places where we are friends with staff go to help strangers/random patrons before us.. knowing we don't care/won't be mad. When really it should be the other way around if you're going by tips.

If a server is profiling people when they walk in the door and choose not to give a person good service based on some profile that they draw up in their mind....well that's just dumb.

So when you go out of town on business, vacations, a sporting event, and you go out to a place for dinner or a bar you will never go back to again, you wont tip your server or bartender because you'll never see that person again....???

Yeah, I'm not falling for that shite

Sporting event??? Ummm no

Business trip? Sure, I'll toss them a little bit. That has to do with my client than with me.

I'm not dropping a server a pile of cash when they didn't prep the meal, didn't make the meal, and didn't clean up after the meal. Tell me the extra goes to the cooks and chef, and then we can talk.

So if you come to New Orleans and eat dinner at Ruth's, have a couple drinks, a bottle of wine, some app's, and you're from Seattle, Washington, you're only in town for the Sugar Bowl, you will probably never come back to New Orleans ever again, but if you do you'll go to a different restaurant.....you're going to stiff the $350 bill because you dont know the person that served you or fixed your drinks?

Still not buying it

Back house gets paid very handsomely to do their jobs....the servers/waitstaff have to split the tips with bar tenders, bus boys, and most front house staff

and thats why grad is included sometimes, you're not just paying for the meal....it's ok to pay for good service and the dining experience.

But I know you're trolling so I'm going spit out the hook

Again, why is this my concern?

If a place of business wants top level employees, THEN PAY THOSE PEOPLE. You call me cheap and then say NOTHING about the owner(s) of the restaurant.

Maybe you should remath your remath, as $7.50 is 15% on the before tax bill, which is the appropriate way to calculate a tip.

The poster in question specifically said $7-8 on a $50 bill. He also specifically stated 17%.

$7-8 is not 17% of $50. And $7 is not even 15% of $50 (which is what I said).

There is nothing wrong with my math. I understand that 15% of 50 is 7.5. Not sure why you’re bringing taxes into this as the tax rate is unknowable without knowing what was ordered or where.

This needs to be carved into every register and every wait station in every restaurant in the country. I can't remember the last time one of those tip calculating sections of my receipt figured up approximate tips without adding sales tax into the equation but I would bet my balls it was sometime in the 20th century.
