It's been said more than once that Stanley Roberts was better than Shaq in the beginning at LSU. Shaq was rough. He got coached up heavily in the off seasons by some of the best on footwork and more footwork! Having twin 7 footers with Chris Jackson at point guard with Vernel Singleton at forward and one more?(I just don't remember the name) was a damn show! Dale didn't win big with that talent and it pretty well said Dale wasn't going to win big.

Jamie Brandon a high school AA.
Stanley Robert’s WAS better than Shaq for the season together. He was much more polished.
I would say Pettit was a true 4 but played center at LSU and overall had a better game than Shaq. Nothing to be ashamed of. Pettit is one of the all time greats to ever play the game. He could shoot, rebound and play inside. Top 10 4 to ever play the game.

I think Stanley was a better offensive weapon (despite the numbers). He had a good midrange jump shot and great touch for a 7 footer that's hard to defend.
Shaq improved his footwork and became a dominate force posting up down low. He basically 1-step dunked teams throughout his college career. I think what made Shaq special though was his physicality, defensive prowess and passing skills.

The 5th player on that team was Wayne Sims.
Shaq and Pettit. Different eras.
But Shaq was a beast.
And, the fouling days back then was actually called "Hack-a-Shaq"

Roberts was a more accurate shooter. Never got in shape/condition to be his best.
