It makes no sense to treat a fumble differently at that spot on the field vs everywhere else on the field. They should bring it back to where the fumble occurred.

Fumble rules do vary by when it happens or possession so it's not like every situation is the same.

A fumble can't be advanced if it happens on 4th down or in the last two mintutes of a half or if a returner doesn't gain possesion of the ball (muff).

Well they do it with catches. Maybe the endzone is a special place.

If you believe this then obviously you would support the same if it happens on the other end of the field? If the offense is backed up on their end of the field and and RB goes on a run around the corner has the ball punched out about the 2 yard line and the ball rolls into the endzone and out of the side or back of end zone I guess you are ok with giving the offense the ball back at the point of the fumble?

Or make all fumbles out of bounds turnovers, that actually seems a lot more fun

Sure it does.

That's the scoring zone. It should carry extra weight.
