I'm surprised yours went up so much if you are in Zachary. I was expecting ours to be bad based on the threads on here, but it only went up a few hundred bucks.

Most of them are broke. If insurance was easy, everyone would do it. Hard work makes successful agents.

The agents don’t set the rates moron

Really??? I had no idea. Thanks for clearing that up.

No kidding they don't set it, but the rates are set so everyone can get a piece of the pie and get paid handsomely for it.

You do realize that they up your coverage every single year?

You may have bought the house and had it covered for $300k. 5 years later and they've upped it every year and now your covering a house that has a value of $320k for $500k.

Renewal for auto came in as well. And it went up 10%.

Don't worry. Our new governor is tight with all the lawyers in town. I'm sure he's gonna ask them to knock it off a little bit.

as well as lowered some coverage amounts where my agent said I was overinsured vs. the average

This is a big mistake. Who cares what the average is? Two thirds of people are underinsured any way. Remember new construction is running $180-$190 a foot right now. Thus, if you had a 2500 sq. ft. house burn down it will cost you $462,500 to rebuild it at minimum. That doesn't count tearing down and hauling off any remaining structure.

Before shopping it, compare your dwelling coverage for this year vs last year's policy. I had a huge policy jump on mine because they tried to jump my Coverage A up 50%. My broker was able to reduce it some (only 25% bump) but made a big dent in the premium increase.

Both of mine went up.

Always worth getting new quotes. Citizens is always the cheapest it seems in south LA. If you aren’t with them, it’s worth looking around

Dwelling last year: $474,200 - premium $2,550
Dwelling this year: $507,400 - premium $3,850

It’s laborious, but I shop all my insurance policies every two years. Gotta keep them honest.

Be sure to send a Thank you note to the Plaintiff's Bar for all this....

You can actually thank multiple hurricanes over a 3 year span. That and a Texas law firm that was committing generational levels insurance fraud in Louisiana.

Then, while he was the AG, on the same day that our puppet governor received notice of their fraud, he received the largest possible campaign contribution from the managing parter of said firm. Then poof! no charges for said firm or partner.

Mine went up $600 and last year went up $1000. Premium has doubled in just a few years.
