Bama's Early Enrollees Potentially Get Screwed by Saban's Timing

1. Alabama has at least 16 early enrollees this recruiting cycle
2. If requested, a recruit/commit must be automatically released from their letter of intent if (1) the coach leaves, AND (2) they haven't attended classes yet
3. Alabama's spring semester started yesterday, January 10th
Because Saban waited to announce his retirement until after classes started, the early enrollees are no longer entitled to an automatic release from their NLI. They will have to ask Bama to release them voluntarily. If Bama doesn't consent, the EEs would have to take an appeal to the NLI committee or stick around for the spring semester and THEN transfer out.
They still have multiple avenues to get out if they want, but because of Saban's timing they will have to jump through hoops.

That is cutthroat on Saban's part.

Dude has impacted the lives of thousands of kids I don’t think he really deserves much scrutiny about his decision making and character

If bama doesn’t release them, that is SHITTY on their part.
And do they expect to not release these kids and they play their hearts out? They’ll eventually leave, just let them leave now imo

Yeah I’m sure Saban was trying to screw over all of the kids that he just signed

Or they could enter the transfer portal quickly and find a new school to attend before new school's last day to enroll for the spring semester. Granted this will burn their one time free transfer without having to sit out a year per current NCAA by-law, but who knows what the results of the lawsuit/temporary injunction against the NCAA re: additional transfer/year is residence restriction will have.

Leave then get a lawyer. The NCAA will fold once again.

I don’t know about yall but I never went to the first day of class.

That’s what they get for being groupies who signed to a school with a 72 year old coach.

They will have to ask Bama to release them voluntarily.
How much effort would a player exert if he doesn't want to be with the team?

This is a non-issue. Every single player on Alabama’s roster, including all the new signees/early enrollees, have a 30 day window to transfer if they’d like to.

Is it true that the star receiver decommited? Ryan Williams? If so come on down baw

Saban would never do such a thing...

you actually have this backwards.
any student athlete already enrolled has 30 days from the coach leaving to enter the portal.
whether he attended classes or not is not a criteria. Just “enrollment”.
if they have not yet enrolled, then the university must release them to be eligible for the portal.

Probably not all, but I bet that several of those recruits asked him if he was going to retire. I wonder what they were told.

I think there would be academic roadblocks to transferring in the middle of a semester. Maybe in the summer, but by then seems too late to use the coach leaving clause. Kids got screwed.

Dood! In what dark universe does Alabama NOT make the transfers easy on these FB players? After all the glory brought to them by Saban (jk) and the 30-day transfer allowance rule after a HC leaves?
Stop creating drama where there is none -- those that wanna leave can leave
Post about what DLine doods we can get in February

He is the "FACE" of the program for which they want to attend and play ball. Regardless of him being the head coach, Alabama was, is, and always will be Alabama.
