I don’t know. But it needs to at least be discussed as a serious possibility instead of just shouted down as stupid and impossible every time it is brought up. And it probably begins with dedicated re-investment into local business and community and journalism.

So a grass roots local movement that spreads across communities and hopefully to the state level and then regionally and then nationally. But it starts in your own backyards. Take back some local and state elections from the two major federal parties and work from there. The local government in Gretna has nothing to do with the local government in upstate Oregon, so why do we both base our entire ticket in every local municipality’s election on the initial of the federal party next to the candidate’s name? That’s a question that strikes at the heart of our problems. Work to get national party affiliation out of your local and state elections.

How many people can even name one of their state congressmen? Any of their state legislators? A single person on their city council?
