Engagement rings and wedding cake are the two most widely known causes of weight gain and empathy.

Just bought one, I guess I should change my screen name. I went to Matt at Cut Fine Jewelry in BR. Great price and excellent service. Went the lab grown route, future little bride loved it and said she could tell I spent way too much.
Good Luck

Hopefully you told her, otherwise she'll learn when it gets insured and/or cleaned by jeweler.

My advice: go to a jewelry store and pick out the size and style you want to buy and then shop around. Know what you want and stick to it.
I used Adiamor and got a GIA certified diamond that was of better quality for much less than what the jeweler wanted. (-6k)
Make sure you are certain of ring size if you go this way. I had to ship hers off because the ring was a little big and I couldn’t find anyone in town who wanted to touch it. Took two weeks and came back perfect though.
Third, get the insurance. Especially if you have all of the tiny diamonds. I am fortunate that I haven’t had to replace anything but I know that time is coming.

IDK what advice you’ve gotten so far…but what I did: buy a diamond from a wholesaler, like A Fishman and Sons, and have it shipped to a GIA jeweler…they’ll make sure it’s marked and everything is correct…take possession of it. Walk into the nicest jewelry store in town and look at all the designer setting…find one you like and that’ll work with diamond shape. Break out your diamond. Tell them you like X setting and here’s the ring size. The jewelry store takes your diamond and has the designer company make a ring perfectly scaled to your diamond and her ring size. I did a solitaire, so it was just the platinum setting I was purchasing from them. Great service. Bought the wedding bands later.

It's as real as lab grown meat...
In a sense I agree, but lab produced diamonds are better than naturally occurring diamonds. Whereas, lab grown meat is weird as heck. It's more like a meat slurry. Ewww...

Mine was from Service Merchandise and came in a tiny ziploc bag. We’ve been married over 40 years.
If it’s important to her, let her pick out what you can afford. I've never felt like it was something that should incur debt, and it definitely shouldn’t be something to impress anyone with. Impress them with how you treat her.

“Get the ring that's appropriate for your future wife. Don't get some massive cheap lab grown diamond and slap it on some dainty woman's finger.”
Get something that reflects your life today and your wife likes.. you will always appreciate looking at it and knowing it signifies your life at that moment and the sacrifice you made for it and your wife..
You can upgrade later in life if you want..
Also get a stone like op said and take it to a jeweler..
real diamonds will maintain ( or not depreciate like a grown one ).. but hopefully you are not selling..
And to grown diamond salesmen..
A mineral is a “ naturally occurring inorganic homogenous solid with a definite chemical composition and ordered atomic structure “…. Lab grown is not naturally occurring…so fake mineral..
Just like cultured pearls versus saltwater pearls.. one is costume jewelry.. they other a gem..

I know they don't hold their resale value.

If your girls claim is that she can see the difference in a lab cut diamond and a natural one she’s wrong.
You can actually spot them a mile away, and it's not because they're lab grown. It's because people always pick out something that there's no way they could afford otherwise. They always go for the biggest and best looking without cross referencing what the price of that would be for a naturally occurring stone.
Do you know how rare/expensive it is to buy a "D" color Flawless natural stone with great symmetry and balance? The average engagement ring isn't going to look anywhere near that good because of the sheer cost.

This is the truth that a lot of people here seem unwilling to hear. If your fiancée shows up to work with some perfect 2+ carat rock on her hand, it's going to look a little ridiculous unless you're OT rich.

Exactly. Everyone knows it's fake. I'm not saying they're not very pretty - because they are - but it's a dead giveaway if it looks too big/perfect. Typically a ring is balanced with the financial position of a couple.
The people who can get away with this, ironically, are wealthier people. If spending $75k plus on a ring isn't actually out of the question, it could easily be fake and nobody would be the wiser.

Get a nice ring you can afford if she loves you she won’t carry the carat and then later on you can get a really really nice ring for your 10th anniversary

The cheapest, biggest one you can afford.
