He hadn’t won a legitimate title since 2015.
In 2017 Bama lost its final game before the playoffs by double digits to Auburn, who they finished second in the division to. There is absolutely no argument that anyone can make to say that Bama deserved to be in the playoffs over Auburn that year.
And no one argues that Auburn should have been in the playoff.

You wouldn't say this if LSU had won in 2020. But they sucked arse so naturally the last NC Bama won "doesn't count"
