I'm a home body. When I "take vacation" my hobby/passion is golfing, welding and wood working and doing stuff around my property. I have a desire to keep my hands busy, so really the only "vacation" I like is fishing and hunting. Sight seeing just isn't something I personally value. I understand different folks like different things, but I enjoy spending my money on my house and don't particularly feel fulfilled traveling.

Keep your old set of wheels and get a camper. Once you have a bedroom, kitchen and bathroom ready to tow behind you, vacations cost nothing but the fuel it takes you to get there and the relatively little amount it costs to park it for a few days at each destination at a state park or private campground.

As long as the expense part is like airfare and not fricking Disney or some stupid shite like that.
For the price some baws talk about spending to bring the family to Disney for a week you can do an extremely nice European vacation if you time the flights right.

There really is something relaxing about spending money like you have millions in the bank while on vacation while telling yourself you’ll worry about it once you get back home

whats the point of having money if you aren't going to spend it?
If I had lived this way up until 2020 I would have been ill prepared for the hyperinflation that followed.
As with all things, try to strive for balance, but the skyrocketing costs have made that hard to impossible for the average person. Life is hard and the prudent prepare while others spend.

My wife likes to vacation too much. It was a minor factor in my quitting working on 2/28/20.
She's planned a trip to the Caribbean in a week, Europe again this summer, some other trip that I'm only semi-aware of because I can't keep up.
I've finally got to the point where I say nope, I'm not going. Go with your sister and/or your cousin. So she went to Tahoe with her cousin and then a week later, to Vegas with her sister.
Too much for me. I like to fish and that's too many days of not being on the water wetting a line.

Yes
Been wanting to pull the trigger on a truck but I know with vehicle sales tanking and the default/repo market breaking records daily there’s gonna be some really good deals before next hunting season. I expect the gov’t to offer tax rebates for buying vehicles in the near future. Also want to go see Utah for a week this spring but man I’m just so GD cheap. Refuse to spend money just to spend it.

Nope. Trips are one of the few things I like to spend money on. I like experiences. I don't give a shite about new stuff.

Not too cheap, just too broke.

You won’t live forever.
Nothing better than a nice relaxing vacation every now and then with the fam.
Other than leaving money to your immediate family what else you gonna do?

I'm the opposite.
I'm good with spending money on travel. But, spending over 1k on anything other than travel makes me think twice.

We typically go on lesser expensive vacations in order to spend some money on other things.

Best memories of my life are family vacations my dad and mom took us on. My pops worked his arse off at the plant and mama worked p/t in a dead-in clerical job to scrimp and save enough for a week long vacation every summer. We had a tiny tin can of camping trailer dad would hook behind the ford station wagon. We stayed in camp grounds, ate bologna sandwiches and cooked hot dogs on the fire. Did every free thing there was to do and see wherever we were. We even spent 10 days in yellowstone one year. My parents probably had $300 total in their pockets for all 6 of us. Worth more than any inheritance I could have gotten.

Nope. Go on 3 or 4 trips a year. Been to all 50 states in the last 12 years. Heading to Europe this year. Plan to see all continents one day.
I don't spend a ton. Mostly airfare amd car rental. Do some camping and hiking with hotels mixed in. Sometimes splurge for a resort like when we went to Hawaii.
Exploring is fun.

I’m the opposite. I have very moderate income but spend most everything I have traveling. I think when I’m a very old man I’ll remember all the fun trips and memories made with my wife and kids. I won’t be on my deathbed someday thinking about the new Tahoe I drove around in.

Move to your favorite vacation spot and you’ll never spend the money again

Twenty years from now, at least you'll have that lasting memory of those big wheels you bought versus that memory of experiencing a new place and culture.
Or maybe work smarter, and do both?
