Vigor’s coach brought it up multiple times, even called a damn timeout but the point keep “disappearing” and finally officials said had to go by score table. So instead of winning by 1 they lost in OT and didn’t get to go to Elite 8.

Of course this in bama so it’s typical. My sons soccer team once lost a chance to go to state after a goal was scored directly on an indirect kick, cause ref forgot it was indirect kick per rule, even though he signaled it and didn’t want to embarrass himself.

I guess I sort of get why people push their kids hard to be good at baseball because theoretically they could make the big leagues but what’s the big leagues in soccer? Performing at drag brunch?

Lost a football game in High school because the ref said the ball was too high. That it did not “go through” the uprights. We lost by 2. I still have the newspaper clippings. Of course nothing ever happened because it was a team from another state and another athletic association.

I don’t know if things have changed,
but based on my previous experience each team has a score keeper who keeps the book, plus tournament games have an “official” score keeper keeping a book.

The book has areas for both the running score as well as the individual player scoring.

While the “official” book is just that, the referee should consult each teams book,
and can use it to correct the official book.

I would assume that they were operating a “live stats” program (it used to be statcrew) where they can have access to a play by play that can be printed out.

All these things should have been checked - and, if they all showed that the “official” book was in error it should have been corrected.

The controversy stems from a scoring error that occurred with about six minutes left in the game. Vigor was up 39-33, following a made free throw. Eufaula then goes on a run, and closes the gap with about 3:42 left, before the scoring suddenly changes on the NFSHA broadcast and confusion reigns inside the gymnasium over the actual score of the game. The Vigor free throw was ultimately taken away and regulation ended in a 43-43 tie, instead of a 44-43 win for Vigor. Eufaula then won the game in overtime by one point.
