However much you have to pay to get into Harvard of MIT is worth it. comparing a full ride at alabama to those 2 schools is laughable. I know people who had a degree from schools such as university of texas with compensation packages of $1 million a year but only for a few years at the later portion of their careers. I know people that went to Harvard or Stanford that made over $1 million before age 45. Small sample size but my experience is Harvard degree is worth its no matter the costs. If a person has a reasonable chance of getting into Harvard they should not end up at alabama. If not Harvard or MIT level take Georgia tech every time.

What is a "better school"?
Take the most debt free way out. It's all about effort after that. It only matters if you go Ivy league and even that has lost a lot of luster.

Now if he gets into a reach school I’ll pay because of the name recognition. Might be stupid but people that go to Harvard or MIT tend to have higher trajectories.
No, just no. They all cook their books in addition to being willing to suck d*** to get ahead in life. If that is what a kid wants in their life, go for it.
For a rational person (hopefully an engineer), that is all fairy tales. After college, the career is all up to the individual and nothing else.

Bama. The key is to finish top of the class. That opens the most doors

What did he get on SAT. That is what GT wants more than ACT.

Didn't take it but killed on the PSAT. Cutoff score for our state for merit finalist was 214 he got a 227.

I did biomedical engineering and have lots of thoughts on it (aka, I wish I had not done it).
I’d ask your kid to really think about why biomed and what they want their career to look like after they graduate with it. If it’s to go to med school, then there are a lot easier routes. Trust me when I say it sucks to realize that organic chem is your easiest course in a given semester, when for most people that is one the hardest courses they’ll take during all of college.
Biomed is also a jack of all trades engineering degree, but doesn’t go as deep into topics other engineers are more knowledgeable about. If they want to pivot to another engineering discipline, it will be challenging and require more coursework.
Jobs in the BME field often require graduate degrees, so be prepared to obtain a Masters if not a PhD before hitting the work force.
That being said, it is a fascinating field of study and they’ll learn a lot across a variety of topics.

Look into Huntsville.
UAH is the better option for Huntsville. Very underrated engineering school and local industry draws from it. Auburn is better than Bama, but either would work. GA Tech is better than everybody in the Southeast.

He plans on doubling in bio along with either mechanical or computer and electrical. As of now he is considering cardiovascular options, either med school or research and design.
He is also considering oncology but more research and design.

My son is at GT as engineering major. He was also offered a lot of money from Bama engineering. We are in a Georgia so once he was accepted into GT with the Hope scholarship it was a no brainer. He’s been to Bama several weekends over the past 3 years to see buddies. That campus and scenery is unbelievable for an early 20’s dude. Bama will quickly rise up the academic ranks with the money they are throwing around to high quality out of state kids. But GT is by far the top tier in the south for engineering. He’s had multiple internship opportunities every summer all because of the reputation. I told him to get the degree from GT and get the wife from Bama!!

This will all change 4+ times between now and whatever he actually graduates in.

I’d be surprised if she doesn’t get a full scholarship to LSU with those accomplishments. If that doesn’t cut it, what does?
Depends on which boxes you can check…

You’re retarded, aren’t you?

No, just being honest. I actually have to hire engineers for a living. So I know a bit on this topic.
And having spent some time in DC around graduates from Harvard, Yale, etc., most of them were complete imbeciles who were nothing but legacy acceptances. The whole ivy league is a joke. Notice how many of their "leaders" keep getting busted for plagiarism. It isn't a coincidence.
The only school I have dealt with whose graduates were regularly impressive when it came to intelligence, skills and communication was Stanford.

You could send your kid to private school to get a social work degree and they never earn in 1 year what 1 year of school costs.
So it depends on what they want to do.

I can’t stand Tech but it’s a phenomenal engineering school. If he’s there he can go anywhere if he does well.

Top 20 school or the best one where they’ll pay the most.

Problem is he is interested in biomedical engineering. Duke is 2 in the country. GA Tech is 1. We live in GA and it will cost about 10k a year as opposed to 83k a year.
For biomedical undergraduate it doesn’t matter. Go to cheapest school. Will need a graduate degree likely to do anything significant in that field and they can get into any graduate school from GT. And get graduate school paid for.
