My highly educated wife (no pics) thinks that the only thing you have to do is turn the temperature up and down without any regard to whether the unit is set to Heat or Cool. I have tried so many times to teach her to no avail.

Mine understands that

But let’s say it’s set at 68. And the unit is running and currently 71 inside. She will go turn it to 65 thinking that will make the air blow colder

Get her a modern thermostat that automatically switches from heat to cooling and then you don’t have to hear about it.

AC = put on temperature you want it to be.
Heat = turn heat on when room gets to temperature set
I’m a woman and know this.

My kids think that way. Would make sense with all the "smart ACs" they have now, they should be able to make this the case. Just set to whatever you want, and the smart AC should be able to figure out how to make it happen regardless of the setting.

5 or so years ago I'd agree with you. Now, you are just using outdated tech and this is actually very easy for you to do.

FWIW my wife somehow set ours to 55* the other day. Our babysitter showed up with our kids from school and freaked because it was so cold in the house.

You can substitute AC Thermostat with most things in the house and the answer would be the same

my ex would get in the car when it was 27 degrees out, and turn the heat/blower wide open, to make it get warmer quicker.

Apparently trailer homes still use the 1970s technology wall thermostat. Upgrade baw.

I am the only one in the house who is authorized to touch the thermostat.

All I know is if you’re hot and you put it on 60 it will cool down quicker than if you put it on 68. Facts are facts.

Yeah, I ended up having to change it out.

The new one knows not to touch the thermostat.
