Actors with the greatest transformation from young to older as far as characters go.

One guy that comes to mind for me is James Spader. He was kind of on the outside of the brat pack in the eighties and considered kind of a nice pretty boy in most movies. As he got into the 2000’s with roles in Boston Legal, The office, and The Blacklist he has been awesome playing middle aged guys who seem apathetic or very nonchalant about stuff. I personally think he’s great now compared to what he was in his 20’s. Who you got.

Anthony Michael Hall. He doesn't act much anymore but he's so NOT the Geek from 16 Candles it's astounding. Many actors grow up and out of their child stage but others still show a semblance of their former selves.

What's the other movie with him and Charlie Sheen?

Wall Street maybe?
Spader has actually had a damn fine career .... he's outlasted most of his brat pack peers except perhaps Rob Lowe and Demi Moore.
This thread made me stop and think about some of his roles such as Boston Legal, Sex, Lies and Video Tapes. The Black List, 2 Days in the Valley, Stargate, Wolf, White Palace, etc., etc., etc.

Leonardo DiCaprio
From a young terrible actor
To an old over-actor like Pacino

I've never liked Spader. He plays the same obnoxious asswipe in every movie. I have to believe he's the same in real life. Oh, and he has a very punchable face..

Rob Lowe. I don't think anyone knew about his comedy chops until Parks and Rec.

Not sure how you hate Spader. I’m pretty either way on his early career, but he’s been great the last 20 years or so. He exudes that “I don’t give a freak” vibe.

John C Reilly went from very serious actor in award winning movies to being known as the comic relief in movies.

John C Reilly has settled in amazingly to comedy. Knowing what he is in comedy now makes it hard to go back and watch a movie like State of Grace playing a Irish gangster.

So is this basically just a Brat Pack thread?

Tom Hanks after starting off in Bosom Buddies to where he is now.
John Travolta and Robin Williams also started off in roles I doubt many would have guessed how far they have gotten.
