Random and off the wall idea here. Would introducing the concept of blood money from historical times, where a man commits murder- the victim's family recieves whatever amount of money decided by a judge that the murderers family has to pay. Along with the proper punishment of the murderer itself. If this was true now, do you think it would lower the murder rates in america? Would gang members consider twice before shooting someone if they know their single mother is going to have to pay a hefty amount?
Or is there a reason why it was done away with/fazed out from future societies? If anyone has knowledge on this topic i would love to know why it worked/didnt work. Im assuming it did not work due to it not really existing in modern times.
Have a great day everyone.

You do know this is possible today?
See: OJ Simpson for the most famous example

The concept of blood money, or diyyah, is alive and well in the Middle East (along with honor killings). Also, in the case of murder, the victim's family gets to execute the perp, often with the weapon the perp used to kill with.

No

I could get behind this. Include drunks who kill people in car accidents.
I like this idea, too.

Gang bangers wouldnt care.
The solution if very long prison sentences and a faster tract for death penalty cases. Removal of the violent persons is the only solution.
Levying fines on people wont work because many of these people dont have anything of value. Guns bans wont work because the criminal does not care about laws and will get a weapon anyway. If a firearm isnt available the violent people will use other ways to hurt people. Taking them out of society is the only answer.
And that is exactly the opposite of what democrat\progressives want to happen with criminal justice.

What you're describing is a tribal society, and tribalism is completely incompatible with democracy, which views an individual as an individual rather than a member of some tribe or clan that needs to be paid reparations for any harms against its members.
So no -- terrible idea and quite regressive at that.
