Are NIL deals structured like common employment agreements?

With clawback and performance based provisions, etc? Is it just kind of the Wild West right now where the agreement looks however is needed to sign the player? Are they under any obligation to remain at a school etc? I genuinely don’t know. Crazy times in college sports.

Nope. In fact, NIL can’t be tied to attendance at the school or participation in a sport. At least not in LA.

No one really knows what NIL contracts look like, except for the collectives and the players.

There is no standardized player contract or standardized agency agreement like in collectively bargained professional sport.

NIL will change with the ruling; players leaving one school for another for more money and doing it again and again, I believe, won't be for long. Eventually, the NCAA or schools, in general, may limit how many NIL deals you receive, how much money you get, etc. The new ruling is wrong for CFB, as you will see more kids doing what that one from Iowa did. He committed to Iowa, switched to Alabama for more money, and then entered the portal again for more money.

I’ve always thought they are structured around the transfer windows. If it’s a 1M/yr deal, then maybe it’s set up as a $333k deal 3x a year. I think that’s how Gordon structures his at least. That way he’s not still paying someone like Logan Diggs who is at Ole Miss now.

Depends on who the deal is with I guess. Yeah, they can’t be tied to performance/school in any way like you get X amount of money for scoring TDs or winning 8+ games, etc

I hear it's the wild wild West, per a employee in ad office of a MAC. School

He said he would as shock d that there is virtually no guidelines or even a remote set if rules.

They need to move off NIL as the primary income stream for the players since it’s not legit anyway. Set up salary contracts through the school with terms that bind both sides and allow players to truly hustle up their own endorsement deals, etc on the side.

There should be performance requirements that if not met, means the schools can cancel and stop giving them money. Treat them like employees at this point.
