I don't know if its espadas fault that Pressly + Hades + a bullpen put together by dana brown can't do anything. What would our record be with a decent pen?
Bregman will be lucky to get 5/100 from someone
Abreu should just be cut, he's done
I want to hate this team so bad but we're missing 4 really quality pitchers right now who if healthy we'd never see bums like Seth Martinez pitching

Literally every deal outside of bringing back JV has been a bad one by the front office including hiring Espada.
This is typical super ego of an owner thinking he was the reason it all worked.
The cheating scandal destroyed him and I think it's time he sold the team.
-Demoting Reid Ryan for his son
-Firing Hunch and Ludlow and all the analytics folks
-Bringing in old school baseballer Bagwells to have a heavy hand
-Signing an aging first baseman
-Signing big relievers that don't pan out

Cardinals are doing the same thing. They are 25th in OPS. Finished 20 games under .500 last year and heading that way again this season.

Pressly wasn’t exactly dominant in the closer’s spot last year. He needs do his job in whatever role they give him or GTFO. Your boss tells you that you have a new job you either do it or you go find another job. Same should apply to him.

losing mike Elias was huge, look at what the orioles are doing now with him in charge. Luhnow, Reid Ryan and Elias were critical in our drafting and development. Crane is very arrogant thinking his son could step in.

Hits: 1st
Avg: 2nd
OPS: 4th
2B: 2nd
SO: 1st (fewest)
OBP: 4th
SLG: 4th
Runs: 14th
RBI: 13th
BA w/ RISP: 13th
SLG w/ RISP: 17th
OPS w/ RISP: 16th
LOB: 29th (second worst)
That tells me there’s a problem with the lineup if they have such good batting stats but it’s not translating to runs.

The problem is literally Alex Bregman, Chas, and Jose Abreu
The leverage at bats find them and they are awful. I mean Yainer and JP have both taken positive steps and the offense still sucks. Abreu was is looking like an awful signing but frick man no one can do anything about guys you have to feel good about it Breg and Chas having just brutally awful starts.

Situational hitting is pigs Anus.

Yes
I’ve avoided the DAT b/c of my eternal pessimism, but have been waiting for this post for a while
You’re not one of the regulars I expected to make this point, but you’ll do. LOL
Espada is a good guy, but JV would have this team 15-7, and Dusty 12-10

And all the deserved hate for Maldy in the lineup so often for years, we get rid of him, and turn around and start a guy that hits ONE HUNDRED points less than Maldy, AND start him more often
I mean the towel guy in the clubhouse would have Dubon on 1st by now

Since I’m on it, Abreu and Bregman making one play out of 2-4 in two games each would have this team at .500, even taking into account all the incredibly astronomically small odd things that have occurred pitching wise
Bregman errors on routine ground balls, dropping foul pops, striking or popping out with runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs. Abreu dropping routine foul pops, dropping routine scoops, and never hitting a ball to the outfield. Ever. Twice in 20 starts to my recollection, outside of his seeing eye ground balls that were his , what, 4 singles?
That old bitch waved and laughed at a fan that called him out after his dropped/missed foul pop that cost the game today

It’s been a perfect storm of shite.
Injuries to starting pitching, meh Sugar Land guys trying to fill the gaps, Abreu suckage beyond reasonable expectations, what was supposed to be the strength of the team, the 7-8-9 relievers devolving into a dumpster fire, and then throw in an unbelievable amount of bad fortune…again that 150 foot ground rule 2 RBI double the other night is at the head of the class.
But the one constant that hasn’t been fixed over the last several seasons is situational hitting. And I don’t even mean it in terms of only big hits because obviously we can all point to Altuve and Yed’s performances alone. I refer more to the quality of the at bats, refusal to play for big innings, working counts, fouling off pitches, not putting pressure on pitchers.
I still go back to the ALCS and Dubon’s AB late in game 6. Bases loaded, LeClerc, coming off giving up a GW HR the game before, had come in and walked Tucker on 5 pitches. So what does Dubon do? Hacks at 3 straight pitches way out of the zone and weakly lines out. Not meant to pick on Dubon because he’s been great in his role, but this is a perfect example of our typical plate approach. Absolutely no awareness. I’m not sure how it gets fixed.
