Average LSU baseball attendance- 11,188

Average LSU gymnastics attendance- 11,691

Granted, there are many more baseball games than gymnastics meets. But the gymnasts are in front of sell out crowds, and not just at LSU. Many schools gymnastics meets are sold out.

Didn’t count ‘em all…

Not “major” but the LSU Lady Tiger Dance Team also bagged a Natty this year in Hip Hop (not hyphenated, for some reason).

In 2021, LSU was the Men’s Outdoor Track National Championship team.

When will LSU claim that 1908 gridiron natty? ;)

My thoughts exactly.

Major sports are as follows:
Football
Men's Basketball
Baseball

The gymnastics, the women's bball, the softball, the tennis, the track and field is all fine and dandy but those are not major sports.

most schools outside of the South and maybe a couple of west coast wouldn't consider this a major sport. It is more niche.

Attendance-wise it is
Gymnastics drew larger crowds than men's basketball, and some baseball games too.

I would say 5 if you include the Tiger Girls. That cheerleading/dance stuff is just as athletic as gymnastics and is a judged competition just the same. All that flipping and tumbling. Some of those girls get hurt as much as football players.

Be careful with those expectations. The McMen will be here soon to tell you how great of a coach McMahon is but we can't expect him to win.

There are only two major sports, no matter how much the media tries to convince everyone otherwise.

Let’s not forget National Champs Tiger Girls! They are famous! Those 3 letters on their chest have brought so much attention to LSU!

I still can’t believe we have 2 Heisman-winning QUARTERBACKS in the last 5 years. Never thought that would ever happen in my lifetime

That’s a dumb way to classify given the context of this thread.

It’s a sport where all schools have teams, are trying to win, and the talent of the field is the top players at that given level for the most part.

Gymnastics is for sure a major sport for women. It’s as hard to win as any other.

There’s a reason they were 0/33 before this season

Baseball isn't a major sport. Outside of the SEC and a few east coast/southwest enclaves, most of the nation doesn't care about college baseball.

Football and men's basketball are really the only major college sports. WBB is becoming one by "mandate" of the TV networks, but the market wouldn't go search for WBB games if the networks didn't emphasize them by broadcasting them prime times.

That doesn't take away from anyone's accomplishments. But from an overall perspective the general public only cares about two sports.

If you are selling out the PMAC for every gymnastics meet, its a major sport.

$1.398 per ticket. HUGE source of revenue for the AD. Also, minimal at best TV coverage/revenue.

Do you really think TAF is worried about ticket sales? Seriously, woman's gymnastics is huge in baton rouge. #1 in attendance nation wide. If its draws people to campus to support LSU and LSU related activities, then its a major win. Woman's gymnastics and basketball at LSU draw attention to the university and are selling out the PMAC regularly. It's a big deal because people want to watch it.

not sure why this is a shock, the largest draw for the summer Olympics every four years is Woman's gymnastics. There are a lot of woman and daughters that want to spend their extra $ on seeing LSU gymnastics.
