The alternative was far far worse. It was a horrible decision that had to be made but it was the correct one. Tucker is out of his mind. Context matters greatly here. The amount of civilians and military deaths would've been in the millions without those bombs.

yup. japanaese fought gallantly and til the end in most battles. taking the mainland would have cost way more lives.

The fire bombing raids were just as bad and there were many of them, but they didn't move the needle to Japan's surrender. Some of the Japanese generals still had to be forced to surrender by the Emperor.

I don't know about far worse, but it certainly would've been very devastating in it's own right and taken years.
