Travel ball ages 9-13 should be for the top 10%-15% of kids in an age group. The issue is rec ball only has scraps left because 80% of kids are now playing travel ball. If some of these areas would work to develop rec ball and have 90% of kids 5-13 playing rec ball in April and May then it would lift everything up. Those kids could form teams and play tournaments June and July. But rec ball is just so bad. There are a lot of baseball guys (former players and coaches) that now have kids in that age group and hate the system but have to participate because there is no other option.
I would like to think that parents would prefer playing in their home city until schools out for $100 then spend money to travel 4-6 weekends after. The pendulum will swing back at some point.
