Seinfeld is famously non-political
his comments on Israel and Hamas since oct 7 are pretty limited and focused on Anti-Semitism and being Jewish in the modern world.
quote:
In one recent interview — part of a promotional tour for the Pop-Tarts movie — Mr. Seinfeld said he felt “very close to the struggle of being Jewish in the world.”
He has also stopped himself short of full-scale sermonizing. “I don’t preach about it,” he told GQ last month. “I have my personal feelings about it that I discuss privately. It’s not part of what I can do comedically, but my feelings are very strong.”

What did he say?

Then he used the talking point
That's a big silly to protest over, but I never have defended the rationality of the pro-Palestinian types, either.
quote:
The past year has also brought more unfamiliar territory. Seinfeld traveled to Israel immediately after the October 7 attacks by Hamas and posted several social media posts generally supporting Israel. This has brought an unaccustomed level of attention and vocal protest to somebody who has generally been resolutely apolitical.
Then he used the talking point
quote:
The movie has a very funny January 6 parody in it, which was a little surprising, given how apolitical you’ve been. And then there’s been the response to your trip to visit Israel a few weeks after October 7. Tell me about the decision to do that.
Well, I’m Jewish. And you grow up learning about antisemitism, but it’s kind of in a book. It never crossed my mind that people would look at me as anything other than, “I like this comedian. I don’t like this comedian.” I think most Jews of my generation never thought about antisemitism. It was from history books. And then it was something different. It was something different.
Were you surprised by the reaction?
Every Jewish person I know was surprised by how hostile the reaction was.
That's a big silly to protest over, but I never have defended the rationality of the pro-Palestinian types, either.

if Israel committed genocide and wiped out the Palestinians wouldnt that effectively end Hamas in the West Bank and Gaza?
that is the problem for Palestinians, 80% of them support Hamas and vote for Hamas candidates
if israel wanted to end hamas lead attacks, they just wipe out the palestinians and problem solved
yet they dont do that
this isnt even a cultural genocide, the Israelis have largely left the Palestinian culture alone

Sure, and countless other non-Hamas Palestinians
quote:

My references to genocide earlier didn't even reference these attacks, which I have never criticized Israel for (so far, at least. We'll see how this ends and what they do after to rebuild Palestine for the surviving Palestinians).

I read the entire article thinking there was more than what you quoted. There wasn't.
That blurb makes him a Zionist? Seems like he just acts and reacts as a Jew. Also seems like the Jewish part of him is what makes idiots automatically think he's a Zionist, since he doesn't hate himself.

I said pro-Israel, I did not say "Zionist"

He's been known as a Jewish person for 30 years and only got protested once he came out in support of Israel.

Can you actually show me what he said about it? That article was about Pop tarts and him visiting Israel after terrorists attacked citizens and visitors, mostly Jewish people.
Can you explain what the difference between Zionist and pro-Israel is? Can the morons supporting the elimination of Israel explain it?
quote:

He got protested when the public hate for Jews became popular again. Israel has existed for longer than he has, but nut jobs weren't harassing Jewish students and replacing the American flag with the Palestine flag until Hamas attacked Israel.

if Israelis wanted to commit genocide why would they care? genocide is eradication, if israel is in on eradication then go all in
genocide is committed against a people
Hamas is a political party, not a people
so Israel cant commit genocide against Hamas, then you must have meant acts of genocide against Palestinian Arabs
if Palestinians are truly under Israeli control then why does Israel allow them to elect their own government and not outright ban Hamas as a political party and its Hezbollah support? Hamas has 74/132 seats in the palestinian assembly, why doesnt Israel put an end to them once and for all?

There is a certain level that isn't palatable to the world.
People, ITT and one other (from the weekend, not today) were promoting the literal extermination of Palestinians, and I said that would end the Israaeli state within a month. That would unite the world against Israel.
quote:
genocide is committed against a people
Hamas is a political party, not a people
Yes, I never said the issues were against Hamas, only Palestinians.
quote:
so Israel cant commit genocide against Hamas
Sure, which is why I said, "and countless other non-Hamas Palestinians" specifically.

If Palestinians aren't under Israeli control, why don't they get to vote in Israeli elections?
There is no 2-state solution, and never has been. I don't even think that's seen as realistic by anyone at the table on either side.

I think SFP wanted to make a point about the thoughtfulness of the protesters walking out (his actual secondary point) and him calling out our collective inclination to jumping to conclusions on this board (his primary point)
the contrarians love to point out the cumulative thoughts and behavior of “this board” like a hive mind
where I feel SFP has missed the mark is he is defending about 20 people, he seems to give these ~20 students credit for expressing genuine concern over the political statements of jerry seinfeld, but SFP has struggled to provide the inflammatory political statements seinfeld made to warrant protesting
then to cap it off, SFP has chosen to take the stance that we are jumping to conclusions by stating what seems to be the obvious. Now perhaps SFP is right and this story is more nuanced than it appears.
if SFP also wants to ignore the sheer narcissism and content creation addiction some people have and may be a sizable piece of this walkout we can get to nuance
Based on the statements, actions and methods protesters have used nationwide against their fellow Jewish students. I dont feel like there is any nuance at all. Being Jewish and Pro Israel is unacceptable, Jews are the oppressors and must be stopped.

I'm not defending the protesters

Why would I need to provide "inflammatory" political statements?
I've never called the protesters rational, or even smart.
But they're not protesting anything related to being Jewish and everything related to Israel.

I did not ignore that. At all.

Being Jewish and Pro Israel is unacceptable,
Being non-Jewish and pro-Israel is also unacceptable.

Jews are the oppressors and must be stopped.
Incorrect phrasing. A straw man.
Israel is the oppressor and must be stopped, is the correct phrasing.

Are they really the oppressor or are they simply winning? Is winning a war that you did not start worthy of condemnation? Should they only win a little bit?

this is the point where I stop
you start to twist everything up in knots and take what was a decent debate and turn it into a “SFP tries to salvage his argument and crawfish out of the thread” exercise

quote:So bombing is something you just don't do to eradicate enemies, and their leadership, but randomly shooting and knifing women and kids are within the scope of normal warfare?
Naw. I imagine the scenario (which I was not proposing, mind you) will involve lots of bombs and artillery, instead.
Speaking of bombing, didn't we drop a couple of atomic bombs on two cities? Wonder if there were any innocents within those population? Probably more than are in Gaza!

Your “proof” of genocide and “apartheid” is an online poll?! Seriously lol how about you know actual facts. I bet after the Holocaust they did a survey of ex Germans to see how the felt about the Jews being killed instead of uncovering piles of ashes or mass graves. I bet they also interviewed Nelson Mandela from prison instead of a litany of laws passed by the South African government limiting the rights of black South Africans. Still waiting on the actual evidence of both instead of your emotional arguments and polls

Not sure how you know all of their motives Slo like you are the spokesman for them. Perhaps some hate all Jews and want them destroyed. Perhaps some hate his politics or some are just sheep. Very monolithic thinking on your part.
