Which is so strange because the surrounding suburbs are some of the most pleasant places I’ve ever been. I feel pretty spoiled because crime isn’t something I ever worry about. Im somewhat concerned my 16 yo will wonder into the wrong part of town but cops do a great job of keeping the criminals segregated.

Did I hear the police chief correctly? Did he blame the business?
Taking a queue from this idiot, I guess.

White people moved and got the hell out of there. That's what you are left with.

Pretty tame while the sun is up. I inspect houses and can see the gangs assemble in the mid morning hours .....Once the sun goes down ....Game on!

“Keeping the criminals segregated”. Exactly. Southern Whites should recognize “desegregation” as the Kennedy wet dream-failure that it has turned out to be. Any “gains “ blacks have supposedly made under this fascist scheme have been at the expense of hard working and law abiding White folks. Our “Redneck” forefathers are looking smarter and smarter as time goes by.

Just like the nice Subarus of Vestavia/Homewood/Mountain Brook, most of the violence in Bham is Bessemer/West End/Titusville etc. I’m not saying downtown Bhma is safe by any means. But all of the crimes in the outlying areas I mentioned above is not downtown bham. I live in Helena, just south of bham and spend a lot of time in bham.

You know something's up when the garbage man in Midfield says...."Watch your back"
I finished my walk through and went over the hill ....

Look at this horseshite: the City is suing the owner of the gas-station for having an ‘unsafe’ workplace. This is what anarcho-tyranny looks like.
West Birmingham gas station to remain open as judge declines to deem public nuisance as requested in lawsuit…
The city of Birmingham is trying to sue the business and asking a judge to deem the place a public nuisance. Friday the judge told both sides to work it out together and come back next week.
The attorney of the shell gas station owner where the shooting happened in west Birmingham says his client is doing what he can to make sure his business is safe for everyone but says he can only do so much. Police say over 150 rounds were fired.
The attorney for the shell gas station didn’t mince words Friday. He said his client is taking safety very seriously, but they need more help from local law enforcement to curb the issues.
“3rd avenue shell and Mr. Nasher have worked diligently to try to make this a safe place for their patrons and they’re going to continue to try to do so,” says attorney Brett Bloomstone. “We’ve done all we can to ask for help. We’re not a police force, we’re a small business.”
“Now that they’ve punched us in the nose and we’ve punched them back, maybe we can hug it out,” the attorney says. “The city’s lawsuit was premature. If the city had known that we were working with local law enforcement as we were and the efforts that we made. I think it came out today that they were not aware of all the efforts that Mr. Nasher had tried to execute to make sure this is a safe place.”
According to the Bloomstone, the business has already been in the process of trying to make safety improvements, including installing cameras from the Jefferson county sheriff’s office and installing barrier polls to help combat crowding.
City officials declined to comment after Friday’s hearing. The Judge is asking both sides to come together and discuss a safety plan and they are expected back in court next Wednesday.

Helena is a really nice area. We are in Vestavia and crime is just not a concern. I leave my doors unlocked all the time. Car doors too. Even when the wife and I go downtown for date nights I never feel unsafe.
I guess it’s just the Wild West in some of the other areas like you mentioned.

Not wise to leave things unlocked.

My thought was always, if whitey was so bad weren’t we doing you a favor by keeping you away? And actually many people will tell you that segregation led to black entrepreneurs in Birmingham where they did not exist other places simply because they had to build their own enterprises instead of just patronizing established white businesses.
All that being said, I have no problem with quality people regardless of their skin color. My neighbor is black OBGYN and they are the best neighbors we’ve ever had. We have Indians, Jews, Russians, Chinese, Lebonese, even a dwarf, all within a stones throw. Everyone gets along because we’ve all bought into and are living the American dream.

The area they are talking about is on 3rd Ave just across i65 and that is considered downtown. The only damn reason there is no crime in the center of downtown is because everything is closed after dark except for where topgolf is and in Lakeview where cops continously circle the block when there's an event.
