re: Chief's Harrison Butker delivers an unforgettable commencement address

Here is the other thing, what he said about when and being homemakers really wasn’t bad, but he was such a judgmental prick about other things and his entire delivery that he comes off bad everywhere
He didn’t tell women they should stay home, he simply said some women are happier being mom than having a career, which is 100% true. A less judgmental peachy religious nut could have said
“Some of you women will become doctors, lawyers, accountants have have successful careers and that is wonderful. But some of you here will give that up to be mothers and homemakers, and that’s great too. Don’t let the media lie to you and tell you that you can’t be fulfilled being a wife and mother if you choose. That’s a life worth being proud of as well”
But he didn’t say it like above because he doesn’t beleive that. He is a true religious zealot. At their core they always beleive they know what’s right for everyone else. And when they can the pass laws to make it such

Taylor Swift should boycott his games and refuse to support the Chiefs until they cut him
Posted on 5/15/24 at 8:37 am to nicholastiger
I think he has far bigger issues than Taylor swift. Like I said he has multiple teammates likely that have done IVF. He is going to have to look those dudes in the eye. IVF is hell on the woman and not something any husband wants to see their wife have to go the through. But people do it for the love of having a child
Harrison has to look and deal with those guys who ain’t kickers….

What the hell does him being a kicker have to do with this? Kickers aren’t allowed to have an opinion? Kickers aren’t allowed to speak truth?
Yes, allowed to have an opinion. They are also allowed to be cut. Not uncommon for punters to be cut if they are a headache or are a distraction (Marquette King and Matt Araiza for example, not that the value of punters and kickers are exactly the same or this is exactly the same situation). Starting QB or another big time player have much more tolerance for distractions and bullshite than a kicker

I think Butker survives this, but wouldn’t be shocked if he is cut. Will depend on the locker room

Wrong. It is poor priorities in life that make it impossible for most people. It can easily be done by a majority of families in this country but that requires being smart about where you live and the amount of crap you think you "need."

So… if someone has heart disease and gets a stent or bypass, that must be against God’s will right?
If someone gets cancer and goes through surgery and chemotherapy, that has got to be against gods will then ?
If an old lady with a bad hip gets a new one, boom against god’s will.
Seems like if IVF is bad and against the will of God, so is literally ANY medical treatment ever discovered.
I mentioned in the second point of my OP that the nanosecond of conception, it’s a human life, but related to that and what I didn’t mention in that post is that with IVF, there are multiple conceived embryos discarded. The Catholic Church thinks those are humans with a soul, so in both cases (discarded IVF embryos vs euthanasia) it’s humans causing a death by their choice.
And “playing God” was maybe not the most clear/accurate way to word it, but IVF is often a mindset of “I choose this one, I don’t choose those ones”, “I want this sample, I don’t want this sample”, product/consumer way to look at a human life. That’s not the case with a stent, chemo or hip replacement. (And it’s also not the case of a child conceived naturally.)
If you a) don’t think a fetus/embryo is human until a heartbeat or viability or any other later point and/or b) if you don’t think sex is only meant to be a unitive bond between a husband and wife in holy matrimony (with the open possibility but not necessarily definite guarantee/ultimate endgame of a child), then of course it’s not going to make sense or seem bad/immoral at all. But that’s what the Catholic Church teaches. So it’s not “fertility treatments” are bad/wrong, it’s that IVF is because of those two reasons.

Regardless, I haven’t looked it up, but I have no clue why Butker chose to go this route in a commencement speech. I haven’t listened and probably won’t listen to it, but it feels out of place, and I’m struggling to figure out how he’d tie it in to a message to 22-year-old college grads.
Now, 80-85%+ of the graduating class at Benedictine (if you know about the school) probably agree with him, but in that case, he’s not really telling them anything they don’t know/agree with. And he also had to know this would get out (so maybe that was his goal) but also had to know a lot of people wouldn’t get it, and that doesn’t seem the point of a commencement address. It’d be different if it was an interview with a journalist and a back-and-forth Q&A where he could expound to questions, but it’s hard for me to fully understand who his message was truly for/what he was trying to accomplish as a commencement speech.

Does he have a background of trying to be an influencer?
There is a candidate for Missouri’s Attorney General position who is definitely trying to get fired from her Fortune 500 job with her absurd social media posts so she can leverage that to become more of a social media influencer.
She has no chance of winning and she is tagging Andrew and Tristan Tate in all of her posts
Butker is different because he actually has something going on in his life, where he is considered a top 5-10 kicker in the NFL and is on a dynastic team.

I played NAIA basketball my freshman yr in college. Benedictine was in our conference. Their gym was wild as hell when we played there. It was fun.

And depending on how woke the NFL decides to be here, that may come to a screeching halt.
Personally, I think he knew exactly the kind of public response he was going to get, and doesn’t give a damn.

I don’t know if you’re conservative or liberal, because this is a moral high ground that neither side can claim.

IVF? Surrogacy?
Catholic speaking at a Catholic university doesn't believe in IVF or surrogacy? Astounding.

You sure didn't. No shock you can't actually comprehend what you read though.

I don’t think I’ve personally met one of my family members or friends that’s anti IVF. I know a decent amount that have used it actually.
