Anyone ever have an evaluation score lowered because you used some of your sick days?

I just got my evaluation and overall it was great, but I noticed my score in one area dropped a point for too many absences. I didn't notice it until after I met with my boss, but we're going to talk about it tomorrow guaranteed.
I work hard not to take days off, so if I ever got sick, I would have days to cover them. Well, earlier this year, I was pretty sick for a week and the doctor said it was not Covid or the flu, even though I had all the signs. TBH, I hadn't thought a thing about it since I returned because I knew I had almost 2 months of sick leave. Needless to say, I'm pissed!
What's the purpose of building up your sick days, if they're going to count against the employee when he/she uses them?

You’re overthinking this.

The old corporate bait and switch.
“We have great vacation and sick leave benefits!”
Then chastises you for using them

That company will crush your soul if you let it.
Take more sick days and don't worry about. Jobs like that are a dime a dozen anyway

How could this affect you in a tangible way?

Every time you take a sick day, tell them it’s because of your mental health in the comments section of your time request. Guarantee they won’t penalize you in any way then.

Possibly it wasn’t put in the hr system right, the women running that system are morons
Otherwise just raise hell. If there’s a published “no retaliation” policy then file an ethics complaint about HR, you’ll have job security for life.

Depends. Do you make requests without any reasoning?
We had an employee that would just announce on Tuesday he wasn't coming to work the rest of the week. He just didn't feel good.

Mine was lowered because I didn't use my sick days. Let me explain...
I had the flu, bad. So I came to work early, touched everything, tongued random cups at the cooler(s). Made sure I doused the kitchenette in non-sexual bodily fluids. Then I became the worlds worst social butterfly and unofficial greeter as they came in.
If I'm miserable, I want the world to be miserable too.

As long as you did not exceed your number of days, and you followed procedure in taking days, that is absolute BS that it would be used against you in your evaluation.
I would ask questions, and probably prepare my resume.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I tried to catch my boss today, but was unsuccessful, but a meeting is definitely coming soon.
So what happens if a female takes maternity leave, is her evaluation affected negatively?

I know 3 people who had very similar illnesses that were 'worse than covid and the flu combined' and it lasted 10-20 days for all three.
I think we had some immune system AIDS going around.
On topic, frick that fricking boss. Take them sick days and tell em go frick themselves.

Lame policy
But unless it effected a merit increase I’d ignore it and just know who I’m working for going forward

Way early on when I worked as a school clerk, my boss at the time would let the secretary do our evaluations and sign off on them. She was this old school "you don't take personal days and sick days unless someone dies" type mentality and would get super pissed at the rest of us when we used our days. So one year she tried to mark us all off for taking more than 2 sick days in a school year. My boss ended up having to correct our evaluations because he simply said, "I don't want you in here sick getting everyone else sick, take the days".

If this wasn't a mistake. Tell your boss you are so distressed over it you will be sick friday and be taking a mental health day. If he reacts negatively tell him your DR prescribed a day of fishing and drinking beer.

Potential lower bonus, no yearly raise, etc.

At my company they can’t harass you for using sick time but when you try to cross over into the upper echelon that’s one of the first things they look at, it’s a possible tie/deal breaker.

Mine is holding the fact that I used a week of PTO against me, so I feel your pain.

You have sick days...take them.
You have vacation days...take them.
You have personal days...take them.
Retired last year and cashed in vacation hours...heck if I know what I used that money for...anytime I used vacation to go hunting or spend time with family/friends, I remember that!
You earned it, use it my friend.
