I am hearing only one year out of the stadium for the jags. There had been talks of being able to build and still have the Fla/ga game but think everybody would rather be able to build quicker and get it done with.

Duuuuuvvvaaaaaaallll! They voted for a half cent tax increase for schools in 2020, dozens are about to be closed in 2024... and we're signing up to subsidize khan again. Motherfricker won't even play all his home games here.

And if Louisiana tax payers are on the hook, I hope they don’t.

The state and the LSED get a lot of use out of the Superdome outside of the NFL games. It's a different situation than many stadiums in other cities.

So you are Ok with paying for a billionaire place to play a game with tax payer dollars?

No, they have the money build and maintain their own place to play, rent out to cities to use if city governments want to utilize space… To many times these teams they hold cities and tax payers hostage.

If they move they move.

Agreed. Around $725m for a 30 year investment that generates a lot of local ancillary revenue is a decent deal for the city. If they can get another Super Bowl out of it, that would help too

The Superdome isn't only used for "a billionaire place to play a game" though, the NFL games are a small fraction of the events that are held there every year. The Superdome also has side areas outside of the central stadium area that are used for various purposes. If the state had to pay an outside entity to rent those spaces for all of the meetings, shows, and events, they wouldn't be affordable, and I would prefer to still have a venue for those things.

LSED is a state organization, not a city organization. Through LSED, the state owns and runs the venues including the Superdome, not the city. A significant portion of the tax-based funding for the LSED and related venues comes from the hotel tax, not from local taxes.

It's not as simple as "make the rich person pay for it" like it may be in some other stadiums in some other cities.

Jacksonville is a shithole that should have never had a NFL team. I say this as someone that lived in Jacksonville for years.

Crazy that billionaire NFL owners expect the cities to foot the bill for their toys.

If it's football only then yes. This stadium is for other events too.

This. Plus the Jaguars are the only team in the 4 Majors in Jacksonville. Lose a lot of city spirit if they leave.

I get what you’re saying but how much revenue does having an NFL team bring to a city? What is the economic impact on St Louis and San Diego and Oakland with their teams leaving?

No one likes to talk about that.

What’s funny is everyone wants to say “well what about the taxpayers??” Completely ignoring that the overwhelming majority of the tax money comes from hotel and rental car taxes. I doubt those businesses mind the tax because without the stadium (and team) that’s less business for them.

If you don’t like the extra $2-3 a night you have to spend on a hotel room in Jacksonville that goes to pay for the stadium, then just don’t go to Jacksonville, but don’t act like the city/county is implementing some income tax on residents to pay for this. Hell a lot of business owners are probably thrilled that their tax dollars are going to something productive rather than down the toilet.

World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, Gator Bowl, Luke Combs just sold out back to back nights there. It is also the lynchpin of that area that has Vystar arena and the Jumbo Shrimp stadium, as well as Daly's place ampitheater.

Jacksonville has gotten dramatically better as a metro area in the last decade, but their downtown still sucks. Overall great place to live though.

Booooo on the city for giving in.

The project was estimated at $2B

Its almost an even split, and the city owns the stadium.

And if costs go over, which I anticipate they will since the estimate was so much higher than the deal, the Jags cover that part.

And the Jags are also developing the surrounding area.

We can "in a perfect world" ourselves into not being happy about anything. I think this is a pretty good deal for the city.

The 63,000-seat, open-air stadium includes a translucent covering that’s the equivalent of “wearing shades in the sun,” Lamping said. It’s expected to lower outside temperatures by 15 degrees.

So, is it a roof or not a roof? I feel like the least popular team in Florida would probably attract some fans by having a stadium with a roof.
