Mays missed the front end of back to back 1and1s, and Taylor’s blown layup is 6 points left out there. We cut it to 1 after that then we let their center walk it up the court unchallenged while we were in a full court press. That possession ended up with a Bama 3. So regardless of anyone wanting to nit pick at Wade, he had us in position to win that game. Our guys didn’t make the easy plays to do it.

In regards to the poor 3pt defense. Wade has said that the lack of depth has caused them to make scheme changes to the defense. Most notably keeping guys in front of you. Not allowing them to drive the basketball. Guys sagging off shooters around the 3pt line, going under picks instead of fighting thru them all point to this. He also said he felt getting Charles Manning back would help this some. I trust WW and the staff to get this ship sailing in the right direction

We do not have enough players to play D like it should be played. We cannot function if one of our top 4 foul out. (See AU game after Days fouled out.)

Yes but have you seen some of LSU’s opponents recruiting class.

In this years Kentucky class, they have 5 recruits who are ranked in the Top 30 of 247 Composite rankings. LSU only has 1 player in the Top 30 and just 2 total in the Top 100. All 6 of Kentucky’s recruits are ranked in the Top 50 247 composite rankings

Both NC and Duke have signed 5 players each and all 10 of those players are ranked in the Top 50 247 composite rankings.

It’s just insane how elite and high level that those schools consistently recruit at, every year without fail..

I think he’s referring to Johnny Jones’ last season.

Yep. We’re just not that good. It shouldn’t be a freak out moment, as we’ve come a hell of a long way as a program. Plus we survived a scandal that easily could’ve dropped us back to a Trent Johnson level hire.

Couple people mentioning lack of depth, which we knew all along would end up biting us. There is no KBW type player that can come off the bench and dominate for 15min. We really don’t have a “7th man”, to be totally honest we don’t even have a good 6th man.

After a new injection of talent, next year we’ll be pretty good. I don’t think Watford is one and done.

His defense has sucked for all three years at LSU. Feel free to do the Kenpom average. It’s worse than Jones’s six year average. Yet, everyone appears to be terrified to point it out.

It wasn’t a problem to call out Miles for his shitty offense. Or Maineri and his woes. But Wade is off-limits?

Agreed. Saying he's done a good job overall is obviously accurate. But hero-worship is another. Defense has been a huge blind spot. And frankly, his excuse about having bad matchups upsets me. I understand that we'd all like to have the perfect matchups. But, ya know, in life we tend to get mismatches thrown at us, and you just have to find a way around it.

Being average defensively, instead of being great, is understandable with limitations. Being awful, on the other hand, is not acceptable.

WTF does that have to do with WW's coaching of defense currently? Absolutely Nothing.

LSU shot a better percentage ovearall and from the three point line. BAMA won the game by making six more free throws. They got the home court advantage on calls today, some obvious some subtle like the foul call with .7 seconds left at the half giving BAMA a cheap two points.

Good points bb. We did have some calls go against us but to an extent that is to be expected on the road, have to overcome. WW addressed it, one of the few times this year our opponents outshot us at the line and he said it was because we were not aggressive enough on drives and in the paint...tended to fade away and not go as strong as we typically do and Bama was blocking those takes.

I think Days lapsing back to foul trouble again was key...what did he play..14 minutes or something? I would have liked to have seen a game where he plays 30 minutes. I'd like our chances better.

But IMHO we can't continually allow the easy dribble penetration, it's killing us. I know Lewis is maybe the quickest guard in the SEC but gotta get a better plan to keep him from dicing us so easily.

Auburn is decent, but they have a great coach that wins them a lot of games because of game planning and game adjustments. I get it that you love WW, but the reality is he's not a very good coach!

Auburn has every bit as much talent as us this year IMHO, and their great coach lost by 16 to Bama in that same building we just played them in this year, lost by over 20 to Florida and just lost to 12 to Mizzou and did not seem to be able to make the adjustments needed to even compete with an inferior team last night.

Let's let the season play out then we can discuss how bad a coach WW is or not.

The only issue I have is the intensity early in the games. They have issues with smaller quick guards no doubt. But sometimes the intensity isn't there early on. Taylor going underneath screens. Not blocking out. Turnovers late in the game. Taking bad shots. These are the little things that can win games. I love coach Wade and hope he is here a long time. Manning getting healthy will help with some of this and with next years recruits will be able to be even more agressive but we are in 2nd place in SEC so all of this talk about how we suck is a little ridiculous.

All this is true and I agree with you... However, It should have never came down to this against that team. That's a team we should beat 4/5 times by an avg. margin of about 12-15 points. We were so sloppy all game (see end of 1st half sequence as one example) that we just dug too deep of a hole by that point. If we could have stayed within 8 with 4 minutes left, we probably win that game.

Eta: I was wrong, we were within 8 at just under 4 minutes but it was 14 at about 5:30. We were sloppy and it was disappointing.
