A popular outdoor youtube channel got some pics and videos about an "Ivory Billed woodpecker" seen in Louisiana from a viewer, it's an interesting watch

Known about them for 15+ years and that is a fact.

Do they even live that long?

That is for sure the best photographic evidence I have ever seen of an ibw. But I am not convinced. But it is enough to warrant further investigation. As of now if I had to say I would say not ibw.

On the flip side if ibw were common, I would say it is probably an ibw.

But it's not an IBWO...

The guy clearly points out why it's not an IBWO and in fact a PIWO.

I want to believe but the stories of these first hand encounters just makes me shake my head

Same here. I'd love for this to be true.

Seven of these were of high enough quality that the observer considered the sighting to be definite (See Appendix 1). Although these observations lack photographic verification, many are supported by field drawings.

Seriously, they "definitely" saw it 7 times and didn't manage a photo? But are supporting the sightings with "field drawings"? Sigh.

Old news, and not from this past summer.

This is from the same study that came out last year right around the time USFWS announced they would consider the bird extinct.

Nothing they captured is even remotely close to being conclusive evidence.

ETA: I'm actually pretty shocked that a scientific journal actually published that.

I am glad this got bumped!

I am not a bird watcher, and no nothing about these. But this search is fascinating to me. Fun to keep up with!

I can think of very few things that would be a bigger story in natural history than confirming the existence of the ivory bill. The hoopla in 2004 when one was reported in Arkansas legit touched my heart.

I was driving on the interstate in BR when I heard the news on NPR.

I pulled off at the next exit and shed tears of joy.
