Can you link to me calling that virtue signaling?

Can any of y’all ever have an honest discussion?

The post was directed at me, dipshit.

And yeah, of course the leagues care about ratings. I never argued otherwise.

And why would I, or any secure person, care if the NFL had a gay celebration?

Athletes are spoiled brats, and many are dumber than the guy sweeping shite up in San Fransisco.

They should be thanking God/Allah/Jesus/Buddha/etc that they live here and that this place is so great.

A large portion of NBA and NFL players would be working on the shake machine if not for sports.

If you want to stop watching then shut the frick up about it. When I stop shopping at a business I don't constantly talk about it. You remind me of the bitchy woke people who constantly complain about Chick-fil-a. Either watch it or don't, but absolutely no one cares.

Jesus.

STFU already. You and your constant whining are a big reason people don’t come to this board anymore.

It’s pretty easy to just enjoy sports and not being the politics into it. Even if the player/coach/whomever brings it up.

I simply do not care what a person’s politics are if they provide me entertainment. As long as a person provides the service they are supposed to then I don’t really care.

Athletes in leagues have been taking their salaries for granted for years.

The assumption that fans would always pay to see them is now being exposed as poppycock.

We have lived in a sports boom the last 30 years and players just think...hey, my stupid sport...like going to the store for Bacon.

People have to have it. Covid and politics have proved otherwise.

Instead of pandering to political issues, why aren't they pandering to the fans?

You would think...that would be their priority...the people that pay their salaries.

The fans are their bosses.

That's right LeBron, I'm your Boss. I can choose to watch you or ignore you. That affects your net worth.

Nobody watches the NBA just for the NBA. It was dead in the 70's because there was no likeable superstar...bunch of cokeheads.

Magic and Bird saved the NBA.

And Jordan took it to new heights.

And since then it's been declining again.

NBA can't sell itself as a sport...that is a God-given truth. The Sport sort of sucks...David Stern tried to make it entertaining by keeping every game close with mandates to officials so the NBA became the WWE-NBA but nobody cared because people loved Jordan.

Nobody loves LeBron...the sport still sucks but now you don't have great marketable people like Bird, Magic and Jordan...

That's why the sport is dying...and maybe it died with Stern. But LeBron killed it. I mean if it was 1984 and Magic instead of LeBron, the world would be going crazy over the Finals.

Magic said he knew he had to sell the product and was told to sell the product because nobody was watching. The Finals were on goddamn tape delay!

It's frankly a shitty TV sport that most people don't gravitate toward naturally because it's 2 points boom, 2 points boom and it just goes on forever until the final minutes where you're thinkging, why did I was sn hours watching whack a mole, when it's always gonnna be decided in the last 5 minutes.

So they need likeable superstars to tune in. It's an indictment on LeBron that he couldn't carry the torch of Bird, Magic and Kobe and is turning people away from a sport they normally wouldn't watch anyways.

I just find it funny the people that wanted the athletes to shut up and dribble all of a sudden care about politics and sports

This is not true for me
I’m fine with an athlete using his platform to voice his opinion. But, I don’t agree with their opinions

So frick them

I think the issue is sports is an outlet for most to get away from the stuff the deal with in their regular life. It’s why people go to the movies. It’s a chance for a break away from reality and to catch one’s breath.

Instead, these leagues and athletes have decided people don’t deserve that during a major pandemic that is upending many people’s lives. That is a large reason for the drop off. I don’t need to be lectured with opinions from an athlete being paid millions of dollars a year while people are starving or struggling to keep their jobs.

What’s worse has been their belief that they are essential and thankfully I think most people have realized how unessential entertainment sports are.
