His portrayal of the Joker in Batman is an underrated gem.

Underrated? He got a lot of praise for this.

I think that over time this has become undeniable even to skeptics.

I like the classic period Jack the best - from say, Easy Rider to Terms of Endearment (although I wasn't as crazy about the latter film as critics were overall, Jack was great in it). But many of his performances since then are up on my list, too, from Witches of Eastwick, Burton's Batman, obviously As Good as it Gets, The Departed and A Few Good men are, likewise, way up there.

For my favorite role of his - it's close between Cuckoo's Nest and Chinatown, but the candidate list would include about 12 or more.

He hasn’t taken care of himself in old age like Hackman and Eastwood have. I wouldn’t be surprised if he has developed dementia by now.

I do think this is the case and they are hiding it pretty well.

ETA: Shoutout to the diner scene in Five Easy Pieces.

It is a well known fact in Hollywood that for the last twenty years or so, Jack has used an ear implant during all of his rolls with an off camera assistant feeding him his lines.

Jack is great in pretty much anything, but About Schmidt might be his most underrated performance. It’s so different from pretty everything else I’ve seen him in and he absolutely nails the role.

Do you mean that in an Alzheimer's way or not giving a shite way? I know in interviews he has mentioned being unable to memorize lines anymore and that can just be part of aging.

I don't know if it had anything to do with him having Alzheimer's though..and then you have people like Johnny Depp and Marlon Brando who do the same thing

This is what I have heard too. All the gossip sites are saying he has dementia or Alzheimer’s so that is why you don’t see him out in public anymore.

not to derail but I don't know if someone can criticize thinking Pacino is a top 4 actor..Except for John Cazale, all actors have trash in their filmography.

The Crossing Guard was another gem I liked. Phenomenal acting between him & David Morse.

Sure, at the time, but it's not the first role most people think of when it comes to Nicholson. Plus, you have recent performances of the character by Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix that have taken most of the limelight.
