I Made a Homemade Meatball Poboy Yesterday

Sooo..... yesterday I was thinking about some kind of sandwich for dinner. It's been a while since we had meatball sandwiches so that's what it was. I browned some meatballs and then put them in red gravy to simmer for a while. While that was doing it's thing I ran to the grocery for a loaf of St. Joseph bread. Seeing some Italian sausage there made me want that as well so I grabbed a package and went home to put it on the Keg to grill just until cooked.
Let that cook on the grill just until it began to split.
I took them off the grill and brought them inside, let 'em rest a few minutes and sliced them lengthwise then into the pan with the meatballs and red gravy. After simmering for an hour or so it was time to eat.
I made mine a combo with meatballs and Italian sausage. Also threw some mozzarella sticks in the air fryer as a side.
Look closer! You can almost taste it! Lol.......
No, closer!

Looks really delicious. I have been known to throw a few frozen meatballs in the microwave or air fryer and wrap them in a tortilla/provolone and dip into a bowl of marinara for a quick, easy dinner. These are staples in my freezer, too, for a quick, easy side.

I'd eat the hell out of that.

St. Joseph's Bread from Dorignac's is some fine eating when you can get it since they usually sell out pretty fast.
When I make a red gravy it is usually with some homemade meatballs and also with some of my homemade Italian Sausage.
The wife and I will do po-boys with Dorignac's St. Joseph Bread, mayo, meatballs, Italian sausage, Provolone cheese and dressed. Chase that down with a cold Barq's Root Beer and we're in heaven.

I was wondering where to find this bread. That looks fantastic. Any other groceries carry this?

No, as far as I know Dorignac’s is the only one. There may be some other store or bakery that sell Italian bread.

My family discovered those last summer and between myself, my kids and their friends we went through several boxes a week. They are really tasty.

That is my experience, and I shop almost all the local larger markets----Rouses, Winn-Dixie, Robert's, Zuppardos, etc.
They all have some form of Italian bread but it is usually the flatter, twisted bread with the sesame seeds covering it.
Dorignac's bread is more of a French Bread style and the seeds cover the entire outside of the loaf.

I feel high just looking at that.

The soft inside of the St.Joseph bread is slightly different from their French bread.

I agree.

I'm making me some deer meatballs and doing exactly that!

Looks fantastic and I'm sure it was, but I think I'd be tempted to just ahead and slap those cheese sticks on the Po Boy as well.

I had Swiss cheese on the sandwich and just wanted to have some sort of a side. And actually the cheese sticks weren't that good.
