IE, XCOM or Phoenix Point? I love ‘em. Was looking for some recommendations. I unfortunately am only on XBox for while.

Thanks y’all.

turn base strategy is one of my favorites.

im not super knowledgeable what is on xbox though. PC is my go to for that.

my most recent play of one was marvels midnight suns. if you like the marvel universe and dont mind a small dabbling of card game elements its was quite enjoyable.

Great, now I gotta go find my PSP and play some Metal Gear Acid… the Metal Gear game played with a collectible card game deck you build.

I never knew about that. Sounds awesome. I’ve got my PSP but my dog ate the battery cover when he was a pup. Gotta get a new one, I love Metal Gear.

I need to get a gaming PC. Especially because of how turn based is probably one of my favorite genres.

Mutant: Year Zero

Is this the game with the mutant like duck/animals? I actually think I got this free on Xbox years ago. Had no clue it was a strategy game.

Yep. It's got a solid stealth aspect to it that let's you analyze enemy positios on each battlefield and position your team how you want them for the opening Salvo. After you take the first shot, it's identical to xcom style.

Not as good as XCom (which I love), but comparable to Phoenix point. But while PP is focused on gathering and utilizing resources, with battle almost a secondary concern, Mutants is more focused on battle strategy and character building.

Go back to the old Final Fantasy games. I played through FF9 again last year and it was still great.

Brosef brings up a good point, do you care about other genres of turn base? i just automatically assumed turn based strategy.

couple other ones that ive played that popped in my head that may be worth checking out

strategy (xcom/FP style)
wastelands 3
banner saga 1,2,3 (one of my recent favorites, think viking/fantasy inspired oregon trail with turn base combat)

crpg:
divinity original sin 2
baldurs gate 3 (real soon anyway)
the more recent (2013-2015) shdaowrun trilogy is on xbox now i think, great throwback feel, solid titles.

jrpg
yakuza like a dragon

Rogue lite/ other
darkest dungeon ( i think its on xbox now): game is 4 man squads of turn based combat. its F'ing brutally hard.

Turn-based strategy is probably my favorite genre... Not sure which of these are on XBox but they're on Switch and/or PS5 so should be available:

For the King
Battle Brothers
Fantasy General II
Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark
XCOM 2
Into the Breach
Disgaea 5

I'm looking forward to this. Just recently finished D:OS. Great game. Started 2 and have my party together, but haven't done much outside of that.

Give Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark a look if you want something close. It's not quite as good but as close as I've seen to it, and it has a pretty interesting plot and fun gameplay. It's available on Switch too!

this thread got me wanting to scratch the itch for a good turn based strategy. wanted something in the same lines of darkest dungeon and wound up pick deep sky derelicts.

its a lower budget darkest dungeon in space. a lot less brutal thus far. still very enjoyable for anyone interested check it out on a review.

I'll play that when I just want to veg out and relax for the day. Have it going on one monitor and YouTube, a movie, or a podcast playing on the second monitor. Great game.

Every few years I re-dl The Realm Online (a turn-based MMO which first went online in 1996). BG3 got me itching to play it again recently (new owners, rebuilding it from the core game). It's only on PC but is free while they develop the new server. The simplicity of the game allows you to multibox on a single machine without having to do anything other than just run the exe again.
